Jesse Marsch's #CanMNT XI is in — with a few notables inbound.

St. Clair starts over Crépeau and Jonathan David pairs Oluwaseyi after Marsch's comments yesterday.

Waterman and Miller also at the back after Jones was unable to take his oath today.

Wonderful to see #CanMNT slowly turn the tide on Canadian dual nationals. Just this cycle we’ve seen Crystal Palace’s Owen Goodman play, Middlesbrough’s Alfie Jones hopefully starts tonight and Tigres’ Marcelo Flores is back in training. Working wonders for our depth!

Russian "liberation" policy
"The Kyiv dam must be destroyed, the city must be flooded, Kharkiv must be destroyed, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Sumy - wiped off the face of the earth, like Dnipro& other cities."

Russian propagandist Solovyev calls for the Ukrainian capital to be flooded

And yet, Russia keeps saying it wants peace.

Excellent piece by @isaaccallan.bsky.social and @colindmello.bsky.social about how difficult it was tunneling *perpendicular* under the 401. I believe it was tricky doing the same for the Kitchener Line / UP Express tunnel as well. A parallel tunnel to expand the 401 would be insane.

Since early 2023, a tunnel boring machine has been slowly making its way south from Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, digging out a route for the Scarborough Subway Extension.

Did you know that when Mount Dennis GO opens this Sunday. It'll be 3x faster to get to Union Station than it currently takes. The fastest trips today take around 45 minutes, on Sunday it'll take just 13 minutes. This is the power of regional rail.

On the importance of cultural history in design education. So many architects chased this fantasy while missing all the warning signs.
Feels like “vast” and “desert” are two blinking red signs for anyone proposing mammoth civilisational projects, maybe there‘s a poem about that

Blowing up russian armouries is the most effective form of “de-escalation”.
A warehouse with many “Shaheds” and UAV launch sites exploded in Donetsk last night, reported commander Robert “Madyar” Brovdi. He said it was the result of a months-long intelligence operation successfully executed overnight.

Prior to 1959, retail units (like one that now contains a popular pizzeria) were allowed without major issue. Then we made rules to block them, and then some people spent a lot of time talking about "old Toronto" as if it was the natural way of things. Which old Toronto? When? Something to consider.
I wrote an op-ed on what I think about the fight for local neighbourhood retail (and the grousing about Badiali's) means for the urban vision of Toronto. Gift link here: www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...
When even the humble corner store is impossible to open in Toronto, it’s a sign of something deeply wrong
We need to accept that Toronto is now a big city.

Province to scrap Toronto’s green roof by-law. Missed this among the cuts to tenant protections. Green roofs help cool our cities, reduce dust and fine particles that make it harder to breathe, create habitats for bees that pollinate our food and manage rainfall.

Ontario bill would look at ‘alternative options’ for ending residential leases, scrap Toronto green roof bylaw. Here are the highlights
The Ford government has tabled an omnibus bill that would make changes to a whole suite of laws and regulations, from green roofs to tenant evictions and driver’s licences.

Yet one more example of an industry impacted by climate change:

England's hottest summer on record produced unusually sweet apples, which bumped up the alcohol content of scrumpy (hard cider). Now, it's classified as “wine”...taxed at a higher rate...and too expensive for producers to sell to pubs.
