Clean energy from the oilpatch?

Think again.

Why no enforcement when Alberta exceeded annual provincial limit by 36% in 2014 and is on track to do it again this year?

LNG and tar sands are not clean, that is why we must have enforced emissions caps.

44% of extraction emissions are from bitumen, 70% might be captured by CCS

No CCS in the world works at capacity, the highest is 40%

Pathways will reduce emissions by < 16%, currently zero commitment by oil industry.

Carney's math doesn't make tar sands oil clean energy.

Carney talks about making Canada an oil superpower, did he wake up one morning to news that the IPCC scientists are wrong?

No Virginia, the models aren't wrong. There are 50 yrs of projections vs. actual observations to measure accuracy with and 17 studies confirm they are spot on.

Alberta's electricity generation is > 40% of power generation GHG emissions in Canada, approx. 20 MT / year.

Applying the 2026 social cost of carbon at $275 / ton results in a subsidy to Alberta of $5.5B granted by Carney.

90 MT of extraction emissions no longer have a cap.

Some deal.

Even if the pipeline never happens, and it should never happen, exempting Alberta from clean electricity regulation is a huge blow to the environment.

Carney either has no idea what he is doing, or has betrayed everyone who voted for him expecting real progress on a green economy.

Carney, Smith, and their oil billionaire donors will not hold our province hostage. Call your MP and demand they end this betrayal of British Columbians. #bcpoli

Before taxpayers agree to pay an additional $4B to upgrade the capacity of the TMX, we need to recoup the $34B already spent on a pipeline that never pays for itself.

Currently, taxpayers are subsidizing $13/b of oil flowing thru the pipeline based on tools that do not recover cost.

No amount of collective masturbation in Alberta alters the lack of business case for another oil pipeline.

OPEC's forecast for oil demand over the next 25 years is <1% growth per year, with the risk that advances in energy efficiency substitution may reduce demand growth to zero.

OPEC's forecast for oil demand hinges on India.

Anything that dramatically changes oil consumption in India will dramatically accelerate peak oil and crush oil prices.

Electrification, renewables, slower pop growth, conservation, war, disease, ...

The oilheads in Alberta screaming for pipelines don't care that they are not economic, let alone good for the climate.

IEC forecasts a glut of 4 M barrels of oit by Q1 2026. Even the US Dept of Energy forecasts oil prices below $54.

Small wonder there are no proponents for pipelines.

Carney is agreeing to 2 new pipelines while greenwashing the oil industry.

His "firm commitment" to achieving Canada's climate targets amounts to insisting the oil industry eventually sequesters 22 MT of CO2 a year vs the 208 MT per year they emit already.

With no cap on extraction emissions.

Every child matters.
When governments create the conditions for a class of people (especially children) to suffer or die, the evidence of that should be the central premise of the reporting and the rest of us should be melting their phones before we have to gather the pitchforks.

This is so fu*cking dark, Canada.

Methane is in the news and so are we.

"Methane — a greenhouse gas with 80 times the warming potential of CO2 — isn’t visible to the naked eye, so it wasn’t until an investigator from Oilfield Witness showed up with gas sensing camera equipment....
Chasing methane, the invisible pollutant
We’re being led to believe it’s possible to eliminate wasted methane, but this could be another false promise from an industry that has fooled us too many times.

Pipelines? Why is no one asking what happened to climate change and why isn't it important anymore? Make Alberta Great Again is not a national strategy.

Why not an industrial strategy that is not based on resource extraction?

Pipelines?? 2 questions no one is asking.

1. The TMX is not at capacity and even if it were, it will never pay back on the investment made. Why another when economics don't work?

2. Hello, what about climate change? Oil extraction is the largest source of emissions in Cda.
