Great piece by Zadie Smith. When the right talks about classics or "Western" culture, these works are only important to the extent that it demonstrates their superiority, they have no interest in art in and of itself beyond that www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

The last two weeks have incredibly confluent for thinking about responsible and resistive approaches to AI in the Creative Writing space. I'm so grateful for my colleagues who are thinking critically along with me and for the literary/scholarly organizations we get to partner with! 1/6

This may explain why there’s an aggressive response to people who merely post Kirk’s own words. It threatens the existence of the alternate Kirk - the motivational speaker that had been marketed to young kids and white Christian groups through selective quotation & clips.

Yes! Humanities majors get jobs!

Which is quite separate from humanities *departments* getting funding. We're under-funded for ideological reasons, alongside mistaken cultural assumptions about employability.

But our majors get jobs! At a high rate! History is a *good* major, so is Classics!

is it fair to suggest that LLMs depend on a Whole Language/Word approach to text, rather than a Phonics approach? Question prompted by my chat with @parrishka.bsky.social about LLMs' failure with syllabics/lipograms… What would change if calculations were made on smaller units than that of the word?

there's only a week left to submit to re•mediate— we're still taking XR, AR, VR, MR, and invite reviews of those works as well as creative writing that fits our theme of [Next Realities]!!
Do you want to #review a piece of #XR storytelling?
Do you have an #essay about #virtualreality or #augmentedreality that needs a readership?
Time's running out! Submit your reviews and essays to re•mediate today.
Submissions close July 1!
