I did three separate sessions of care this week for my family. I also did 5 night shifts and zero writing. If anyone asks me why the poor can't write I'm gonna use their blood as quill ink.

2nd night in the hospital and I have to vent because I have this thought every l time I’m here: why are the rooms, particularly in long stay wards, so utterly hostile to rest? Why does everything beep so goddamn loud? The only ones who need to hear it are the staff, surely it can be relayed to them?

Discourse. I'm in. Social Media is the genuine space now. People go to the gym to show themselves off here. They intellect, write and perform all for the socials. It's a simulacra of a hyper reality under a self imposed panopticon and I hate it.

The thing about my last book is that it wasn't a piece of fiction but something else but the energy of putting it into the world, is something that won't ever meet the needs that created it.

And stating the obvious, none of this will improve until aged and disability care, hospital care and community health care is all funded and managed as an integrated whole rather than across layers of govt. It is all connected. The pandemic highlighted this, and no lessons were learned - again.
