The gift goes to the US Treasury and does not increase DoD's spending authority by one penny. DoD still cannot spend money on military pay until Congress passes a budget.
Fairly sure that the money goes to the US Treasury general fund and is tagged as going to DoD for military pay, but DoD obtains no enhancement to its overall spending authority beyond what Congress has authorized. Congress has not yet authorized spending on military pay in the current fiscal year.
The purported donation amounts to $100.00 for each active duty service member. An insulting substitute for a paycheck.
We have 1.3 million active duty military service members, so $130 million is enough to give each of them $100.00. Total. .
Fair enough. It's a good, solid "scoop." The legal issue matters only when considering the importance of what you found.
Why did you bury the observation that Hegseth violated the law when he disbanded the Office of Net Assessment?
ICE, CBP, and several other agencies are supplying federal officers to round-up suspected immigrants and people who oppose their tactics. I think we need a word or term for this coordinated multi-agency goon squad. It's not "ICE" and it's not "secret police."
The Trust for the National Mall is the private-sector non-profit that is destroying the White House. Eventually this organization's leaders and donors should be required to restore the White House and White House grounds to pre-2025 conditions. We need their names.
This is a 100% private-sector project. Trump wants it and the GOP Congress is ignoring it.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ballroom construction is overseen by a private-sector non-profit organization that uses private-sector donations to pay for it. It is NOT a government project. It is illegal and allowed only because King Trump allows it.
Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world." The GOP does not read the Gospels.
The online front page of WaPo changes during the day. What you see when you look will be different than what another sees when they look. The print edition is permanent. This also is true for the NYT and other newspapers.
I guess it's "news" when young people blame older people for whatever is wrong with the country.
Not entirely fair. Here's the Sunday WaPo print edition:
Also take note of how White the crowds are. This also is encouraging for American democracy--and disheartening to conservative Republicans and Trumpsters.
These are Illinois state police officers. Why did the governor send them there?
Doesn't count the thousands of non-citizens here LEGALLY who were held by ICE against their will, despite Kavanaugh's assurance that this would not happen.
Good chance that the Admiral was kept out of the decision loop regarding attacks on boats off the South American coast. This would place him in the untenable position of being circumvented by Hegseth.
Great work on detained US citizens. But Kavanaugh offered assurance to everyone who is a U.S. citizen or otherwise lawfully in the United States. Many thousands would make your list if these non-citizens were included.
In addition to failing to spend money that Congress provided for specific programs, Trump has spent money that Congress has not provided for other programs. Congress hasn't tracked these illegal diversions of money/resources from what it approved to what it has not approved.
In addition, the tactic invites news coverage, which is vital.
Does the border patrol come in 2nd? Seems like they are working hand-in-hand with ICE.
Trump impounded those funds, which is illegal, and is spending using that money to spend beyond legislatively authorized levels for other State Department programs, which is illegal.
