Oh, these things are super cool! Back when I was into off-roading, I knew a few people who used gmrs for comms between vehicles when we'd take wheeling trips. The range is crazy under the right conditions

I'm designing self-contained electronics for fursuits! LED eyes, horns, fans, etc.. all individual and removable devices to eliminate the need for fragile wiring. Also wireless snoot-tap controls :3

You can definitely sew an entire suit by hand (lots of makers do this), but it takes a lot more time and it kind of limits your stitch options.

I'd recommend looking for a used machine to start out with
