i created one which can perform an absolute value operation in just a handful of basic instructions that are available on just about every processor going back to the 6502
a related algorithm decays a signed integer towards zero
but i do not know *how* cool it is because i do not know anyone with an overlapping area of interest
so friends and family are either like "why tho" or "i have no idea what those words mean but it sounds impressive" but more often both
