Can data science/literacy be taught in elementary? Absolutely! These last several weeks of the semester, my elem math preservice Ts are learning the fundamentals of data collection, organization, and visualization. They’re excited to try some of these activities in their internship class next sem!

Quick introduction: Håfa Adai! I’m Richard, son of immigrant parents from the Philippines, born and raised in Guam. I’m an asst prof of math ed at the University of Oklahoma, currently working on developing culturally relevant data science curriculum with Indigenous math teachers from Micronesia.
