Excellent new paper by Juan Bogliaccini and Aldo Madariaga.

One wonders whether 'opportunity hoarding' can also be applied to incumbent sectors' opposition to diversification strategies and industrial policies in Latin America.

A surpresa da imprensa (e do tal mercado) c/ os resultados positivos do Brasil e os negativos da Argentina resultam dos anos de crença cega em um aparato teórico que nunca foi grande coisa, mas hoje está ainda mais defasado.

So, let me see if I got this straight.

The guy who fired people to the point of breaking Twitter (and tried to hire some back) is now in charge of firing people in the US government?

Cool, cool...

So, China and Brazil signed a bunch of MoUs (and other agreements) yesterday.

I will follow the numbering done by the Brazilian government: www.gov.br/mre/pt-br/ca...

I was taking a look at the 'most relevant' ones for development and industrial policy.

Let's do a thread with the highlights...

If green industrial policy doesn’t speak to people’s needs, it’s doomed to fail as a political project in a time of the rise of the far right.

What sticks out is that out of the 5 top receivers of fiscal benefits, 3 are in the meat sector.

This sector received HUGE benefits with no strings attached during Brazil's industrial policy push in the 2010s.

@dasilvapp.bsky.social and I wrote about it here:

The Brazilian Finance Ministry, amidst mainstream media and 'market-actors' calls for austerity, has released the main beneficiaries of--let's say perennial--fiscal benefits.
