It's a poor translation, caused by English using the same words for both physical sex and identity, it it being 2001. Digimon don't inherently have sexes, but they can identity however they like; see Crusadermon/LordKnightmon, who despite looking like THIS, has been 'male' in half their apperiences.

The format also lends itself better to individual character poses, where at least in my head if I'm wanting to frame something it's likely a fully rendered piece w/ background.

Those were the only purple and pink rings I had avalible so I just kinda made do. In retrospect, I should have just flattened them down to a single shade instead of trying to stay overly faithful to the original sprite. Similar with the browns, I should have been more aggressive flattening 5 to 2/3.

Self critique: I definitely made poor color choices on this. The original sprite has 2 shades each for purple/pink/red, but my avalible colors the red you nearly can't tell apart, and the pink/purple are TOO different - I focused too much on matching color count. Also only had 3 browns, for 5 shades

I still think the encounter around the bonfire at the start of Bloodborne is too many enemies... but only as a matter of pacing. If it'd been like 2 rooms later, after the beast(s) on the bridge, I think it would have been fine. Just a bit much for like the 3rd enemy group you meet in the game.

It's especially stood out to me watching playthroughs because the secret passage that leads to fixing both benches is in the same part of both rooms (top left), and I keep seeing people check literally every other part of the walls before giving up and walking away.

From what I've seen, the biggest problem people are having with those benches is not trusting the game enough: the map *never lies*. The Bilewater trap bench never actually shows up on the map, and both of the others are fixable from within the same room, people just... don't check thoroughly enough
