Will my Japanese improve if I read manga written for kids? Gonna try. Of course, as usual, I had to procrastinate actually doing that by writing tools to (in theory) help me study better

Finally got around to dumping the ripoff known as cPanel to admin my websites. Instead of $47 a month I now pay $0 with Virtualmin GPL. Only took like an hour to switch over, smooth import process.

Our cafe is hosting its annual Halloween retro-gaming night tomorrow, and I’m enjoying choosing which games to feature. I’ll focus mostly on multiplayer fun as usual, but include a few oddities too - including the only horror game on the Virtual-Boy

For those who use ComfyUI via its API (as usual, a rather niche audience to be sure), take a look at the ComfyUI Workflow Converter Endpoint I released on GitHub today: github.com/SethRobinson...

Some claim that the issue with running small or two-person indie game studios is our inability to accept criticism. Hogwash! On a separate note, here's what you'll hear if you reach out to RTsoft support: (the Google Play store requires us to have a public voice line for some reason)

My old LD jam game (and Proton SDK sample) Looney Ladders running on the Wii!
I'm toying around with the new Wii I purchased and I decided to port @rtsoft.com's little game framework!

Here is the result, the sample game Looney Ladders working on Wii real hardware! (Forgive the quality, this display is crap, I know)

Asked ChatGPT for advice, believed it, bought the wrong thing. I was chabotaged.

There's a place near my house in Kyoto called Angel Scat Studio. The acronym is A.S.S. and I think about it daily.

Amazing pic!
A very young me from 199X, sitting in front of the 486SX/25 MHz machine we had in the closet, playing @rtsoft.com's Legend of the Red Dragon.

I miss those days.

Split Fiction was a blast. Twice as big as you'd think, packed with clever two-player mechanics. Shame about the writing, though. Most cutscene were a grating, artless slog of whiny dialogue and clumsy exposition... the skip button wasn't just a relief, it was self-defense

Akiko: I need a countdown timer that overlays our mahjong scores on the tv, I guess there's probably a webpage I could use for that and...

Me: But will it have sound effects and ten-chan?!! <a short while later>:

Talk about niche: I've open-sourced the Japanese Riichi mahjong scoring and season tracking Google Sheets stuff I wrote for C2 Kyoto's Mahjong nights, in the very unlikely event there's a mahjong parlor (or group of friends) out there that needs it! github.com/SethRobinson...

What's the most expensive off-the-shelf video/computer game ever sold? (not counting special bundles/promos/stunts) As near as I can figure, Samurai Shodown V Special (aka Samurai Spirits Zero Special) on Neo-Geo AES, 2004 - $359.99 (~$610 today)

Tried Antstream's "Retro Classics", (why is the app called Pleasantville btw?) - the good news is they got streaming to work at what feels around 66ms latency. The bad news is that isn't good enough for twitch games like River Raid, it's noticeably "wrong" if you compare it directly to a good setup

Scenes from Osaka Expo 2025 last Tuesday. Lines everywhere. Word is they panicked over slow sales and priced season passes way too low ($160 USD). Now it’s a madhouse - there’s even a wait to get into a freakin' Family Mart!

ANNOUNCING YET ANOTHER TRANSLATION THING I MADE: UGTBrowser - a chrome extension that does inline translations (and optional creative tasks) on web pages using top LLMs. More an experiment, but hey, it works. Needs your own API key. Free & Open source. chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ugtbr...

I’ve been experimenting with AI-assisted coding for weeks. In fact, a recent project (UGTLive) is roughly 80% AI-generated. Paradoxically, AI coding is the easiest thing in the world to start - but the hardest to clean up and debug.

Announcing Universal Game Translator Live! It's a complete rewrite of UGT that's built to do real-time game translations. YouTube video of it in action: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFrW... It's very beta, but it's on GitHub now: github.com/SethRobinson...

Early screenshot of a new "real-time game translator/thing to help study language" I'm working on! (Game I'm testing with is Konohana 2) If I can get it to a good place, I'll throw it on github, it's sort of a complete evolution of UGT rewritten in C# and Python

Tried out OpenAI's "Deep Research" by generating a chart of Nintendo launch pricing over the years. Seems about right, but unless I checked every #... hrmph.
