First post, let's see how this goes; libraries, socialism & film photography (hence the pics), that's what you're mostly going to see here!

Does seem to be the case that you’ve an increasing numbers of shooters etc just driven by a desire for pure violence and destruction.

Zero ideological coherence, maximum nihilism (and even then, half the time I wonder if they’re doing it just because)
i agree. there's something very dostoyevskian about how the modern sources of terror don't seem to be formally ideological but just seem to be purely postmodern terror, causing terror for the sake of terror
Hot take but apolitical internet brainrot terrorism feels more disturbing than strictly political.

Transgender people are owed a retraction and apology from @wsj.com. The lie has already become canon to millions and it seems the least they could do.

Suppose people can stop equivocating over whether Trump is a fascist sympathiser now right?

Like this is blatant sympathy for the far right here.
EARHARDT: We have radicals on the right as well. How do we fix this country?

TRUMP: I'll tell you something that's gonna get me in trouble but I couldn't care less. The radicals on the right oftentimes are radical because they don't want to see crime. The radicals on the left are the problem.

Is Newsom just adept at rising to the moment rn or are other Dems genuinely so thick as to not realise that this is what their base (and probanly a lot of the country at large) want to hear?
Newsom: This Saturday, he's ordering our American heroes, the United States military, and forcing them to put on a vulgar display to celebrate his birthday, just as other failed dictators have done in the past

Know it has been said before but still: for some time now, it has been patently obvious that most conservative/libertarian/right-wingers, no matter where they are in the world, don't care about constitutionalism, liberty & the rule of law.

It's all now about trying to maintain ideological hegemony

It is the duty of US lawmakers and policymakers to just flat out state that what’s happening in LA is exactly what “mass deportations” will look like - honestly baffling how many Americans seemingly think it will be surgically precise or somehow won’t affect their neighbours & loved ones.
Wow. New CBS poll finds majority (55%) supports the *general goal* of deportations, but a bigger majority (56%) dislikes how Trump is carrying them out. And 63% want due process.

Again, we need a better discourse around public opinion on immigration, as I've argued:

Cowardly decision by the Scottish government to accept this ruling, totally weak & one I suspect will be looked back on with scorn in the future.
The Scottish Government accepts today’s Supreme Court judgement. The ruling gives clarity between two relevant pieces of legislation passed at Westminster.

We will now engage on the implications of the ruling. Protecting the rights of all will underpin our actions.

Whatever happened to #abolishICE? It needs to be abolished. This is torture.

Fabian Schmidt’s family said they are unsure of why he is being held. They said he has a recently renewed green card, and no active issues in court.

If universities don’t start meaningfully defending their students against Donald Trump, they will be complicit in the political persecution of Mahmoud Khalil and the many others being targeted for their dissent.

ppl getting angry at this but he's talking alliances and he's 100% right- you cannot trust a country where every 4 yrs the foreign policy does a complete 180 & tears up treaties and reneges on deals and withholds payments because some sheep farmers in Wisconsin think too many black women have jobs
America is over. There is no coming back from this.

If we're lucky maybe we claw back some small-l liberalism for our daily lives. But even that might be too much to hope for.

The rest of the world has to move on from us.

They now know that the American people can't be trusted.

They're right.

Look, idk if Doug Ford can actually cut the power to northern US states, but I think he should, and do so quickly.
Trump on Canada: "I spoke to Governor Trudeau ... they don't have military protection, and you take a look at what's going on out there ... people are in danger ... they need our protection."

Under fascism, no one is safe.

Universities stayed quiet as the admin targeted DEI & foreign aid, censored research, etc.

Now, they face devastating cuts to indirect cost rates, threatening research & operations.

Silence won’t protect institutions. It won’t protect people; it never does.

Would accept this argument in 2016; alas, it’s 2025, and Trump has very much shown what he’s about.

Let them reap what they’ve sown etc
i do really think that it's true that *no one* voted for what we've seen in the last two weeks. i mean, everyone that voted for him absolutely should have known better, but this is a level of chaos and dysfunction and own-dick-shooting that no one predicted this quickly.
Aside from the idiocy and depravity of it all who even is the constituency for this shit?????
