This piece is about building something lasting out of what was meant to break you. It’s for the people who weren’t expected to make it, who had to find strength in silence, shame, and being overlooked. Building on Rock Bottom I built it from the silence no one broke, from nights I chewed through rust instead of bread— the floorboards where the past rose up and spoke, the dreams I buried just to walk ahead. I built it from the truths they wouldn’t face, the shame sewn into my Sunday-best suit, the hunger that became my saving grace, the prayer I mouthed too scared to dare refute. I built it from the wreckage of my name, from bottle caps and broken glass and spit, from every time they swore I’d die the same, then watched me crawl beyond their shallow pit. My foundation is the fall they never saw— a kingdom born from ash, without a flaw. This poem explores the quiet, shameful return to old patterns you thought you’d escaped. It’s about how healing isn’t linear and how even after progress, the weight of the past can still pull you back. Relapse I thought I’d climbed the mountain, made it through, but somewhere deep, I slipped and lost my grip. The air got thin and swallowed up the view, and all the ground I gained began to slip. I told myself I’d stay above the fight, but dark is sneaky, creeping in like rain. I pushed it down, I buried all the spite, but lies don’t die—they only leave a stain. I wish that I could tear the skin away, shed all the things I promised I would leave. But like a curse, it always finds its way, and I’m the one who never learned to grieve. So here I am again, the same damn place, one step from falling—back into disgrace. This piece reflects on aging, memory, and the strange fear of staying the same while the world changes. It questions what we really lose with time—and what we might still lose if we somehow escaped it. If I Never Grow Old If I never grow old, will the years still bleed, like ink that fades, leaving scars on the page? Will my body wither while my spirit takes heed, a phantom in mirrors, locked in a cage? Will my memories twist, like roots gone astray, or remain sharp and clear, a thorn in the heart? Will I love without breaking, or lose it each day, as the world spins away, torn slowly apart? If I never grow old, will the world still bend, like a broken tree reaching for skies it can’t see? Will my hands stretch to hold what I can’t defend, or crumble to dust in a room full of me? And when I am lost, will I know where to go— when I never grow old, but only outgrow? This poem is a quiet unraveling of beautiful lies. It peels back the comforting illusions we tell ourselves about the world, love, and meaning—offering something colder, but maybe closer to the truth. So You Know So you know, the sky’s never truly blue— just light bent through cracks in broken glass. The clouds are shadows, drifting through the gaps where time forgot to pass. So you know, the stars don’t burn with fire— they’re empty holes in a hollow dream, spinning in silence, caught on a wire, waiting for something that will never gleam. So you know, your heart doesn’t always speak— it beats in rhythm with the lies you wear, and truth, a whisper, soft and weak, buried beneath the weight of stale air. So you know: the world is cracked and wide, and you’re still here, just barely alive.
