I will have so much to say later, but a HUGE thank you to so many people. I am incredibly grateful that my hard work paid off, and it is so satisfying to see that a pro-housing campaign can get these results. I am so excited to serve our community in this way!!! 🥳🥳🥳

The federal government is obviously important and their funding decisions affect all of us. But tonight is also a reminder of how much we need each other, and how giving locally and supporting our neighbors is also a vital necessity.

Great Sunday morning article to read; a lot of embedded links. Thinking about all this on the local level.

“everything is politics. That’s something authoritarians who aspire toward totalitarianism, like our current regime, get. And it’s something we no longer have the luxury of ignoring.”
Mamdani got 1,036,051 votes and had 108,000 volunteers. One out of ten people who voted for him also built the campaign. Amazing.

All of us olds live in constant PTSD about Obama's campaign purposefully unwinding its volunteer army in 2009.

Good news: Mamdani's team says it's doing the opposite.

New — While some states have received SNAP benefits for November and USDA is supposedly pushing through all federal payments soon, that doesn’t erase the psychological terror of the last few weeks.

I spoke with 20+ SNAP recipients in 16 states about preparing for a possible future with no food:
The voices of SNAP
Recipients have become political pawns. They explained, in their own words, what Trump withholding funds has been like.

The cold snap this weekend is a good reminder that we can help keep each other warm this winter! Join the winter coat drive and help The Haven. There’s a lot of places to drop off hats, gloves, scarves, and coats and support a local business while you’re there!

I just listened to this recent episode from The Cavalier Daily, talking about UVA students’ experiences with housing - great information and what a frustrating experience this has to be! Hopefully the new housing getting built will help alleviate some stress.

More than that, this argument is so dismissive of non-national governance! But states & cities are very important in terms of taxes, housing, transportation, parks, schools, policing, etc.—collectively, they are more important than the federal government. Winning local races is very important!
The argument makes no sense. Ross has been saying that Democrats will never win if they run on left policy. Then a Democrat wins by running on left policy and he says who cares, Mamdani isn't gonna go anywhere.

One consistent conversation I had today with voters and volunteers was that so many of them want young people more involved and for people who don’t want to fight to step aside. Even in a solid blue county, they know we have got to build a deeper bench.

Historical perspective on Virginia election results-

Abigail Spanberger is on track to win by the largest margin of any Democratic candidate for Governor since 1961, before the integration-era party realignment.

Democrats will win their largest House of Delegates majority since 1987.

A BIG night.

I’ve been at the polls almost all day and it has been great having good conversations with neighbors about the county, but my favorite thing by far has been the first time voters who are showing up and asking how to do it. 🗳️
