ICYMI: Trump says his administration won't approve any wind or solar power projects.

Reminder that Big Oil spent nearly $100M to get Trump elected in 2024.

It's a huge payoff for his corporate donors at the expense of a livable planet.

If you’re a convicted felon and your character witness is your dear old friend, the convicted child sex trafficker and enabler of your other dear old friend, the most notorious raper of children in modern history, you’re definitely a total piece of shit.

His mate hadn't been quick enough to flee the country in 1956. I think my dad and his mate must have spoken about half an hour (all we had because had to catch the train out). Then when they said goodbye, they just started sobbing. And then I started scrating in response. Tears in my eyes now :(

I remember the first time we went to Hungary (by train) when the restrictions on people who fled the countrry in the 1956 revolution was lifted. My dad met up with his best mate on the Fisherman's Bastion:

That's OK, it's hot there. I remember the summers, helping my granddad brush the horses (one was called after my pet name: Bandika), deliver hay, getting to drive the cart and horses. Sometimes I walk the fields and smell the Hungarian countryside 🥹

And that translation is finished. Now time for a workout, press-ups for my arm muscles and weightlifting for my back muscles. Coz priorities ...

(4) So if you want a good translation, I'm the one. As I also say, we're the best proofreaders. My customers always say I'm Argus-eyed: I pick up on all the mistakes in the German source text. That's called delivering value added. But everyone wants to cut costs these days, so quality is buggered.

(3) Those aren't my translations 😜
But stuff like this is putting us out of a job. OK, I've made my money and I just want to plod calmly on till I drop because I'm passionate about my job. I love driving for excellence. But I'm worried about the young ones coming into the profession ...

(2) website called DeepL. It's a translation tool. And it's not bad (and sometimes very good). A lot of customers use it now if they just want to get the gist of an article instead of paying for it to be translated. But it cocks sentences up, too. So as more and more companies use it, remember:

(1) This speed is mainly thanks to Translation Memory, a program that automatically inserts the translation for sentences that are identical and you translated before. It also shows you where the changes in near matches are. And I'm sure AI is going to revolutionise things ever more. There's a neat

The counterchecking is done and I picked up one missed "the". You may ask: "An hour for just that?" Well yes, I try to be a perfectionist in my work (but laid-back otherwise). It's just my professional ethos. And part of that ethos is also NOT demanding perfection from others. Now some translating.

So to the counterchecking. And now I can put on some music: Swan Lake.

I used to do one Annual Report that always ruined my Easter (and I love Easter, even better than Xmas). Then one year was a late Easter and the report was to come a few weeks before. But then there was a delay because the CEO had been caught embezzling and cooking the books. So guess when it came?
August 22, 2025 at 10:56 AM
Done with the checking! Now I just need to countercheck the with last year's version, but you don't need a thinking cap for that. It's concentration only. If you'd told me yesterday I'd make this much progress, I would have said "naw." Looks like I get a weekend after all. 😀

Just 3 pages to go, but they're tricky: The titles & positions of Executive Board and Supervisory Board members. If you don't get them right, these suits can get pretty stroppy, bless them. Mild inferiority complex, one feels. It's probably why they want to dominate & run other people. Leadera, ha!
