People do not understand how traumatic it has been for all of Venezuela for the last 20 years. This is so deeply unjust and racist. They are just rounding up brown Venezuelan men with tattoos.
As a Venezuelan it has been tragic to witness what is happening. The worst part is that many Venezuelans dehumanize other poor people, assume they are criminals, and are online cheering for this. Decades of impunity were traumatizing, but that does not excuse their disregard for human rights.
Posting tonight ti shine a light on what the Alien Enemies Act looks like IRL. Our @immdef.bsky.social client fled Venezuela last year & came to US to seek asylum. He has a strong claim. He was detained upon entry because ICE alleged his tattoos are gang related. They are absolutely not. 🧵
