Pro-Starmer Ultras are such a funny concept. Like being really into the queue at the post office, or lukewarm tap water.
There is a small subset of pro-Starmer ultras on here who either genuinely don’t understand that budget stories *are directly briefed out by the Treasury, with permission* or pretend not to know that. And so they claim the plans never existed, haven’t changed, etc. It is maddening, and dumb as fuck.

me normally: fuck me, Europe. what a terminally cucked continent. we're all so fucked. no one recognises the basically lifethreatening systemic threats to our democracy that we are surrounded by. everyone's granny is a violent racist. it is all so shit

me when an American even hints at agreeing:

a truly insane anxiety I have is that if I'm friends with both members of a couple I will always try and engage with each person's content equally on Instagram as otherwise I worry that they'll discuss the fact that I'm secretly in love with one of them

extremely delightful to be retroactively validated in all my most self-indulgent mid-20s narcissicisms. "you know who I bet is reading my posts? extremely cool hot girls. I bet they're reading them to each other out loud and talking about how funny I am"

BlueSky: tax rises would be unpopular but they’re needed, so it’s better to do them now than kick the can down the road

YouGov: tax rises would be unpopular

Some guy, smugly: oh ho ho ho, looks like Blue Sky is in a bit of a bubble

the extent to which journalists will circle the wagons around even members of the profession who have serially violated every professional ethical standard possible is astounding
what the actual fuck

Most professions think everyone else in their field is an idiot. Every nurse has a story about a doctor who nearly killed a patient. Every plumber says the last plumber you got in broke your pipes. Every lawyer thinks other lawyers can’t read. Most notable exceptions are cops and elite journos

Problem: AI needs massive amounts of power to thrive. Nuclear makes lots of power. Nuclear takes a long long time to do safely.

Proposed solution that I'm sure will have no unpleasant consequences: Use AI to speed up the construction of new nuclear plants.
Power Companies Are Using AI To Build Nuclear Power Plants
Tech companies are betting big on nuclear energy to meet AIs massive power demands and they're using that AI to speed up the construction of new nuclear power plants.

who gets this kind of shitty romanticizing prose written about them, and who gets dry commentary, depends on being in the club or not. as a journalist I find little more obnoxious than the idea of going to bat for somebody who violated basic professional ethics simply because she's in the club

This Black Fungus Might Be Healing Chernobyl By Drinking Radiation. The fungi contain melanin, which “absorbs radiation, which is then converted into usable energy, allowing it to grow in areas with intense radioactive exposure.”

Second, it incentivises people to work fewer hours. We've heard anecdotally from managers unable to persuade staff to work more hours, or return to work full time - it's a particular problem for hospital managers, as junior consultants within the £100k "trap".

Why does this matter?

The answer is not "we should feel sorry for people earning £60k/£100k".

First, it's irrational. We shouldn't tax people earning £60k more than people earning £80k.

I’ve been thinking lately about how WANRO‘s campaign would’ve been improved if it was set in a peripheral theater instead of Central Europe because the top end kit would be rare and precious instead of commonplace.
Aside, Africa is severely underrepresented in strategy video games. I think only 1 company has made games related to that conflict compared to others from the Cold War
