If you saw @farirpgs.com 's excellent Boundless and thought, "What if more Bloodborne combat?" this might be one way that would look.

Fight a lot of sharks.
Build your Raft.
Maybe face a Sharklone 🌪️.
Sharktooth has a fast combat system with flexible defensive options and a guided tiered success system. It also features a no-charm persuasion system, explosives, and the Sharklopedia.
Pick it up and be eaten by a shark in seconds.

Seems a bit of an oxymoron
I don't know how to feel about independently coming to a lot of design conclusions for a Bloodborne-inspired combat system for my Sharktooth RPG coming out this week, but I can say that Boundless has elegant and fun solutions to similar questions I've faced.
I've been talking a lot about Voidlight recently, but Voidlight is pretty much a scifi version of Boundless, my new soulslike tabletop RPG with old-school grit and modern design.
Boundless is free + open licensed, and is my go to "what do we play tonight" game.

Best thing I got from #GameholeCon was a signed copy of
@randallhampton.bsky.social's The Little Game Master story for my 3yo. We read it multiple times a day and play "Grabbed by vines," where we decide how to free ourselves from vines and roll to try. Best family gaming purchase of my life.

I had another thought on this...
@tabletopbookshelf.com should host Meet the Designer days. I have no idea if their new location facilitates it, but the advantages are obvious. The incentives of the author and store are more directly aligned than those of a con and its vendors. And, well, Milwaukee.

Sorry you didn't have a good time, but I enjoyed talking to you and I hope it didn't completely sour your opinion of the whole state of Wisconsin.
I really wish it was in Milwaukee not only because I wouldn't have to drive far, but there's a LOT more to do near the convention center.

I like the good Dr. Campbell's modifier:
1. Ancient Near Eastern interactions with the divine
2. Exegetical fallacies, esp. those perpetuated by fundamentalist evangelicalism
3. Replicating Prince Zuko's arc as the benchmark of story mechanics in RPG systems (Avatar Legends of course does not pass)

Two things I researched for most of my academic life, and one thing I adore.
1. Figurative language: how it's processed and why we use it.
2. Learning sciences: the science behind how we actually learn.
3. NOVAverse: the lore of my scifi setting where the sun exploded over the planet Obron.

list 3 things you can talk about for 3 hours with no prep
1. Single season ‘90s TV shows
2. Hamlet through the ages as an avatar for emotional repression and later the healing process of mental health.

Game Designers... what was the game that got you into designing #ttrpgs and why?
For me it was Fiasco by @jmstar.bsky.social - it was/is a great game, I enjoyed playing it. The format was mind blowing but it didn't quite do what I wanted. So I wrote When The Dark Is Gone which did.
