And Christie was elected twice. Some people take it for granted that some states are blue states but if you look at actual election results Dems aren’t usually winning in blowouts.

So glad I canceled my subscription to this pathetic excuse for a newspaper.

Will there be consequences or just more warnings (don’t mean that to be snarky, legit question!)
shawnmcc.bsky.social
Crazy idea, but maybe it’s not any politicians job to use their position to promote their faith or anyone else’s.
shawnmcc.bsky.social
Which means she knows it’s still the voters who will determine if she keeps her job, not ICE agents posted outside polling places.

I think so too, but the question that matters is are Republicans angry enough to change how they vote?
shawnmcc.bsky.social
They have allowed me to bond with other people on Bluesky who also are not benefiting from tax breaks and subsidies for billionaires.
shawnmcc.bsky.social
But will it affect how they will vote in the next election?
shawnmcc.bsky.social
I remember the theme song, the premise, the characters… but I honestly could not describe the plot of a single episode.

Don’t really believe Hamas either. They’re not the good guys just because of what Israel has been doing.
shawnmcc.bsky.social
Yeah, letting MAGA stay in power is going to be great for the trans community. 🙄
shawnmcc.bsky.social
Agreed. Time to switch products. Instead of sparkling authoritarianism, let’s call it I Can’t Believe It’s Not Fascism!
shawnmcc.bsky.social
Dems need to get the message out to vote as early as possible.

First I have to comment on the article before reading it, then use the fact that this one is gifted to rant about how all articles should always be free, then rant about how fascism started in the US when Reagan murdered the Fairness Doctrine. After that I'll be too tired to read it.

I feel the same way. Serious reforms are needed to repair our political and economic systems and I don’t think Dems are up for it.
shawnmcc.bsky.social
And when they are given an order that violates their oath to the Constitution?
shawnmcc.bsky.social
Just following orders? Not very reassuring.
shawnmcc.bsky.social
Does Illinois have grounds to make the same argument Oregon did?
shawnmcc.bsky.social
It’s not a gotcha. If people are going to use what ICE is doing to prove that the country is now entirely a fascist state, then it’s worth pointing out that we’ve seen much of what is happening before. The whole conversation i about whether or not the US is currently a fascist country/
shawnmcc.bsky.social
It’s almost as if these people WANT to live in a fascist country. Instead of being relieved that we are not and we have time and the tools to stop the current track we’re on they’d rather insist it’s too late to do anything.
shawnmcc.bsky.social
Are we allowed to make jokes about fascism while living under a fascist state?
shawnmcc.bsky.social
We were living under a fascist dictatorship in the 1940’s? That’s people’s position now?
shawnmcc.bsky.social
The problem is bigger than the Republican Party. The country re-elected him. Ironically the Republican Party likely would have stopped him in 2016 if we didn’t insist in having a democratic process to choose nominees. A smoke-filled back room would have squashed this.
shawnmcc.bsky.social
Not as bad as the people who are replying to me saying that yes the US was also fascist dictatorship in the 1940’s or the ones who are fine with rounding up citizens in violation of their rights as long as a Democrat does it.

Abuse of executive power is abuse of executive power. My point is US history has many examples of authoritarian behavior from the government but we avoided becoming a full authoritarian country. We can still avoid it now.
