A supernova remnant with a smooth outer shell in hydrogen emission, and a clumpy inner x-ray shell. The hydrogen emission is shown here in red, while the clumpy x-ray emission is shown in blues, greens, and pinks. I almost didn't finish this, because what I was doing was almost exactly the same as had already been done beautifully, and I try not to redo things. It ended up quite interesting however when I realized there were multiple frames from different years that could be used to show the expansion of the bubble over time. Firestorm Of Star Birth In The Active Galaxy Centaurus A - From Goddard Space Flight Center - https://flic.kr/p/9TMNa5
NASA image release June 16, 2011 Resembling looming rain clouds on a stormy day, dark lanes of dust crisscross the giant elliptical galaxy Centaurus A. Hubble's panchromatic vision, stretching from ultraviolet through near-infrared wavelengths, reveals the vibrant glow of young, blue star clusters and a glimpse into regions normally obscured by the dust. The warped shape of Centaurus A's disk of gas and dust is evidence for a past collision and merger with another galaxy. The resulting shockwaves cause hydrogen gas clouds to compress, triggering a firestorm of new star formation. These are visible in the red patches in this Hubble close-up. At a distance of just over 11 million light-years, Centaurus A contains the closest active galactic nucleus to Earth. The center is home for a supermassive black hole that ejects jets of high-speed gas into space, but neither the supermassive or the jets are visible in this image. This image was taken in July 2010 with Hubble's Wide Field Camera 3. The Hubble Space Telescope is a project of international cooperation between NASA and the European Space Agency. NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center manages the telescope. The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) conducts Hubble science operations. We report: if we find colours in the deep night sky, we have to wonder how many of them are of our imagination, with our mind gone soft and mushy in the darkness. There is rhythm in the pitter patter of rain and dew dripping from foliage, keeping us grounded despite it all.

30 Million light-years Away Hubble Sees Merging Galaxies - From Goddard Space Flight Center - https://flic.kr/p/DE2BVd
This image, taken by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, shows a peculiar galaxy known as NGC 1487, lying about 30 million light-years away in the southern constellation of Eridanus. Rather than viewing it as a celestial object, it is actually better to think of this as an event. Here, we are witnessing two or more galaxies in the act of merging together to form a single new galaxy. Each galaxy has lost almost all traces of its original appearance, as stars and gas have been thrown by gravity in an elaborate cosmic whirl. Unless one is very much bigger than the other, galaxies are always disrupted by the violence of the merging process. As a result, it is very difficult to determine precisely what the original galaxies looked like and, indeed, how many of them there were. In this case, it is possible that we are seeing the merger of several dwarf galaxies that were previously clumped together in a small group. Although older yellow and red stars can be seen in the outer regions of the new galaxy, its appearance is dominated by large areas of bright blue stars, illuminating the patches of gas that gave them life. Centaurus A Extreme Deep Field - 130 Hours - Sep 2019 - From Rolf Wahl Olsen - https://flic.kr/p/2hk73QH
The Deepest View Ever Obtained of Centaurus A (NGC 5128) New improved version with 10 hours of H-Alpha, Sep 2019 In 2013 I gathered 120 hours of data on Centaurus A, and processed the deepest image ever obtained of this magnificent galaxy showing many features and structures not revealed by amateurs before. In Feb 2014 I released an improved version of the image with higher resolution, processed using PixInsight. Then in 2018 I again acquired further data (for what is evidently a never-ending project…), this time in the H-Alpha wavelength. This new re-processed image incorporates the H-Alpha data in order to highlight the impressive emission structures triggered by the relativistic jet from the supermassive central black hole. It also emphasises the many pink hydrogen clouds in the dark dust lane across the centre of the galaxy, and lastly I feel the image showcases the concentric shells and rich background slightly better, while keeping a reasonably subtle natural look. About the Image This image is the realisation of a long time dream of mine: Taking a deep sky image with more than 100 hours of exposure. I set out on this mission in early 2013 and after having gathered 130 hours of data on 46 different nights in 2013 and 2018 I present what I believe is the deepest view ever obtained of Centaurus A. This is likely also the deepest image ever taken with amateur equipment, showing stars as faint as magnitude 25.45. I spent around 40 hours and analysing processing the data...
