I recommend the Forney 140 MP for a home hobby welder.
it does wire, stick, and tig.
$300 bucks and a box of rod or wire gets you into the door with a good multi process machine.
couple hours at youtube university and youll be sticking metal together no problem.

I feel like ive always missed the dichotomy mentioned here. In my experience its furries who are the ones obsessed with trying to be upright professionals.
In my blue collar profession, everyone is a weirdo who screams noises instead of using words.

Increasingly I feel like I favor furry because it espouses the idea that humans, for all our mastery over nature, are still animals. We need to nap and wander and frolic and utter strange noises. It is good for us to be weird little guys, which is something society is so committed to stripping away.
