As of today, North Carolina is the only state in the country without a budget.

The General Assembly needs to come back to Raleigh next week to fully fund Medicaid and then pass a budget that meaningfully invests in our people and our state.

I have rarely been more confused, disappointed, and distraught that I was in November of 1985 when I first dropped the needle onto my vinyl copy of "Cut The Crap" by The Clash. Oh boy, it was BAD. Rob Sheffield does a good job of telling the tale here...

The Legend of ‘Cut The Crap’: The Notorious Disaster That Killed The Clash — Rolling Stone
Forty years ago this month, the Only Band That Mattered drove into a ditch with one of the Eighties’ most hated albums. How did it happen?

Congrats @stereogum.com on the relaunch! Chilling line from @scottgum.bsky.social's intro: "Google's pivot to AI search has cut our ad revenue by 70%. Facebook and X's deprioritization of links hurt too, but I can't downplay the brutal impact of AI Overview." Please support music writing, folks.

This is so fucking embarrassing. Just beyond. Feckless cowardice.
That December vote is a huge moment we can turn into a victory. People are watching. Good bill, we win; they cheat, they will lose. If we fight united.

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

I'm so glad to see people waking up to the reality of the Dems that helped enable this current national meltdown in so many ways.

I would like apologies from every blue waver that yelled at me in the last decade for being insufficiently loyal to a party that wants me to stay silent and powerless.

I weep for the future (and the present, for that matter)...

"What worries Miles and Clement is not only that their students are permanently distracted by their devices, but that they will not develop critical thinking skills and deep knowledge when quick answers are only a click away..."
Are we living in a golden age of stupidity?
From brain-rotting videos to AI creep, every technological advance seems to make it harder to work, remember, think and function independently …

If you don’t see the link between ICE and the IDF, you haven’t been paying attention. We are being asked to accept a world where whole communities are made disposable and marked for disappearance. If we accept that for anyone, no one is safe anywhere.

Some important info on Kaleb Horton and his writing for MTV: as I learned, he'd reupped the Merle piece on his site earlier this year, but otherwise his 2016-2017 work there was scrubbed and long unavailable. Happily, I was able to find a Wayback link with them all. Share, read, and remember.

Many media outlets hid the full truth of Trump -- his background in organized crime, his Epstein ties -- out of fear, only to be obliterated by him in the end. Had they not self-censored then, they might not be state-censored now. When you hide the truth, you face the consequences.

What will it take for people to understand that Democrats do not want to fight back? That they are on board with what’s happening?

What will it take? How long will it take? And how much will we lose because supposedly smart people just keep staring at the dead donkey, waiting for it to resurrect?
I think centrists are often waiting for permission from someone they believe holds a position of authority before they do anything.

So I sincerely hope Ezra Klein’s appeal to elected Dems today gives them the permission they need to actually start fighting back against Trump.
