My ongoing request:

If your NSF or NIH grant was terminated--whether at Harvard or elsewhere--please report it here.

NSF: grant-watch.us/submit-nsf.h...

NIH: grant-watch.us/submit-nih.h...

Our trackers are actively used in lawsuits and are often the only record that terminations ever occurred.
NSF appears to be terminating hundreds of its grants to Harvard, per internal sources at NSF and at Harvard. At least one division has had all its grants cut.

For folks who don’t know, ethnic studies programs like African American/Africana Studies, Asian American Studies, Chicano Studies and the like come directly from civil right era campus activism. Attempts to disempower such programs should be framed as attacks on civil rights same as much else rn.

Despite the terrible weather Chicago showed up for science yesterday. Thanks @durbin.senate.gov for speaking, along with all the amazing scientists across Chicago.

My (likely) final first author paper was published today. I miss research but 4 months out of the academic track, I don’t miss the lifestyle needed to sustain a career in it.

Scientists work so hard to push human knowledge and the concerted attack on these efforts will harm us all.

Here are the three goals of the March 7th #standupforscience as information is altered & removed, funding changed in ways that penalize scientists, & needed expansion in participation replaced with opportunities for less.

So cool 🤩 fun fact: seeing the Hubble image of the Pillars of Creation is one of the reasons I pursued astronomy
Ever wonder how something like the Pillars of Creation forms?

This animation shows how young, hot stars carve out roughly spherical cavities in the surrounding gas. The densist pockets of gas and dust shield the material behind them, leaving behind pillars. 🔭🧪

Scream it from the rooftops. Just because someone’s not interested in science doesn’t mean it hasn’t made their life better. Let’s all be better science communicators
I wish we could reach the average American and let them know that with Trump’s cuts to the NSF, NIH, and CDC, they will no longer have access to cutting-edge medicine. U.S. physicians won’t have access to new technology. New cancer treatments will be available in other countries but not to them.

Also, that acronym
BREAKING: Rep. Mark Pocan has introduced the ELON MUSK act which would ban "special" government employees like Musk from having federal contracts.

The full title of the bill is the Eliminate Looting of Our Nation by Mitigating Unethical State Kleptocracy Act.

I know these are challenging times — and the Trump administration is trying to confuse the American people.

That’s why it’s so important we speak plainly: Donald Trump is incompetent.

Dems keep asking for money, but only some seem to be actually fighting back.
ICYMI: This week, Donald Trump started gutting the National Labor Relations Board – putting special interests over working families.

It’s a terrible sign of what’s to come.

Here in Illinois, we’ll keep standing up for workers’ rights.
Scoop: Along with NLRB GC Abruzzo, Trump has ousted NLRB member Gwynne Wilcox, despite law forbidding firing board members absent neglect or malfeasance

It is simply not enough for universities to say, “Our grants & research offices are looking into how research will be affected by the latest directive.”

University leaders must actively and very publicly make the case for the kind of work many of us do. The silence on this front is deafening.
