It's hard to make political predictions in a climate this insane, but I am certain that as long as any Republican has a say, the Epstein files will not be released in their entirety. Also, one day, they will all be released, and they will be way worse than anyone suspects.

IRL my friend group is pretty evenly split between Europeans and Americans. Frequently, you'll see an American talk about a disabled relative and how everyone is having to drop everything just to keep that person fed. The Europeans are too polite to say anything, but it sounds barbaric.

If you've never lived outside of America, you have no idea how weird American high school sports seem to everyone outside of the U.S..

Having kind of a rough day, so I thought I'd watch a movie to get my mind off things. Decided on A Dog's Purpose.

Big mistake.

A lot of people these days root for the cats.
It’s hard to believe but there was a cartoon about an immigrant mouse and it was seen as totally fine and not controversial and not woke because it was an aspirational and nice thing about America that people could come here and find a better life

The only truly important takeaway for me is that $ does not buy elections so long as there are platforms that a candidate can use to get a good message out cheaply. This is the same takeaway that billionaires have learned so watch for them to start exercising more control on those platforms.
Zohran Mamdani, a 34-year-old state lawmaker, was elected New York’s 111th mayor on Tuesday, riding a historic surge of enthusiasm as the nation’s largest city embraced generational and ideological change.

Here are seven takeaways from election night.
7 Takeaways From a Stunning New York City Mayoral Election
Zohran Mamdani motivated voters to head for the polls, using a broad coalition of supporters to overcome Andrew Cuomo’s success in siphoning Republican votes.

I was just thinking about my ex and her Mom. Years ago, MIL was bankrupt after some terrible business decisions that had put her millions in the hole. My ex was very stressed about how her mother would ever dig out, and I told her, "I DREAM of being so rich that I can have that kind of debt."

I know a few conservatives who went MAGA whom I maintain some contact with and at least a couple of them are at the point where they are realizing that the people who told them where this was going back in 2016 were right all along. Fuck them anyway.

I will never stop admiring Pratchett and how he managed to infuse so many books with so much gentle wisdom.
Freyja Stokes, a real-life #Pratchett scholar, looks at Mrs Palm and the historical connections between sex work and witchcraft... come for the history, stay for some amazing puns.

You guys remember that episode of the Twilight Zone where the world is reduced to rubble in a nuclear holocaust and the lone survivor is all, “I finally have time enough at last to try a buttplug without embarrassment or judgement!” and then he falls and breaks his only ass?
Weird episode.

Just wait how low Trump’s ratings get in his third term
Enten: "Trump is doing absolutely awful in the minds of the American people. We're talking about new lows. CNBC, -13 net approval on the economy. It's -19 among Quinnipiac ... He's not just beating himself with record lows -- this is the lowest for any president ever."

This is one of the prices you pay for living a life in a distorted reality. You can't tell what is real anymore.
Trump: "They cheated on a commercial. Ronald Reagan loved tariffs and they said he didn't. And I guess it was AI or something. They cheated badly. Canada got caught cheating on a commercial. Can you believe it?"

Honestly, who has time to give a shit about this when they're taking food away from hungry kids and facilitating genocide? With the destruction of our actual institutions happening, who cares about the destruction of the symbols that represent them?

I like watching dystopian 80s and 90s SciFi because, as bad as the images are supposed to be, they tend to be much better than what we actually got. Watching Strange Days now, and the whole premise is that LA cops killed a black guy in a traffic stop and are terrified that it was caught on video.

I don't trust any of these Republicans career politicians or thought leaders who switched sides after Trump. If the trajectory of the party was obvious to me, you had to have seen what was obviously on the march 50 years ago.
