I'm still amazed by how intense The Patriot is with Mel Gibson. It boils down the American Revolution to one guy's revenge. Essentially a remake of Braveheart, but not as rousing as the original. It's a fascinating film.

I've been watching the Ken Burns American Revolution documentary. I got to the point now where the British have gone South, and it gave me pause to rewatch Mel Gibson's Patriot for the first time in a while, and damn, they have the British carrying out Nazi like atrocities.

I think the Burns documentary on the American Revolution is good. In particular I had no idea the smallpox breakout that coincided with the war. Washington mandated his troops got inoculated.

that whole 'this country isn't ready for a woman president' line is really upsetting because it shows exactly how neoliberalism works, redirecting blame from issues of policy (or lack thereof) onto a flattened, vague type of sexism in a way that ultimately doesn't even challenge sexism!
