1/ Ngā tūwāhi (Locative nouns). Tai - sea, coast, tide . In modern Māori it is used as a noun. Kua pari te tai - It's high tide. Te Tai Rāwhiti - The East Coast. Tai mate - slack water (when the tide is turning). Wai tai - salt water, seawater. Tai nui - spring tide, king tide.
