I think her undisputed masterpiece is "Von Dutch". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about music itself.

Also while this is true, people do let you get away with a lot if you really are excellent in math, 1.) I would put the cutoff at something like 1 in 10,000 or so, and 2.). Even if you hit the cutoff there’s an extra 0 in your salary if you can be a 1 in 10,000 mathematician with good social skills

I wonder if the United States can learn anything from the last time a major industrialized country decided to isolate itself from the rest of the world?
Almost a decade after the Brexit vote, GDP in the UK is around 6-8% lower relative to peer countries. (Source: www.nber.org/papers/w34459)

this kind of seems like proof that donors and senators whining about their Thanksgiving travel was, actually, the motivation behind everything
The President wouldn't last five minutes as an air traffic controller, and after everything they've been through - and the way this administration has treated them from Day One - he has no business shitting on them now.

My post of Decision Desk's decision to call the Seattle mayor race for Harrell last week didn't hinge on who would ultimately win: The point was that a "call" isn't a race to get a prediction right.
But Wilson now being ahead should at least bring more attention to the importance of not rushing.

Calls are about certainty and not risking people's confidence in the final result. Speeding through for competition is not good and irresponsible.

This isn’t about left vs. right.
This is about fighting back vs. losing.
The regime’s threats are too real and the stakes are too high to settle for the feckless, loser version of the Democratic Party we saw this week. In this moment when fascists are on the march, we need leadership with a spine.

Our primary program will include both the House and Senate. And after the primary — whatever happens — we will rally behind the winner and crush the regime electorally in the midterms just like we did this last week.
We get the party we demand and we intend to demand a Democratic Party that fights.

After yesterday’s surrender, we’re launching the largest Democratic primary program that we’ve ever run.
We will not back any Senate primary candidate unless they call for Schumer to step down as Minority Leader.
If you’re as pissed as we are, join this campaign to rebuild the Democratic Party. 👇

Great job, @schumer.senate.gov. You've changed the story from "GOP hurting millions of Americans to please unpopular, failing, delusional despot who's destroying his party" to "Dems are too weak and divided in the face of Trump's strength to take a stand and protect Americans"

The model of holding individual senators responsible is broken here. The retirees clearly agreed to take the fall. Which is why the nos should get no credit for voting no unless they move to oust Schumer

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.
Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.

Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.

Hassan
King
Cortez-Masto
Shaheen
Kaine
Fetterman
Durbin
Rosen
Understand This Fact: Chuck Schumer is behind this. None of these 8 are up for reelection in 2026. Schumer asked them vote yes—they agreed. He's such a coward that he folded and won't even own it.

This is not what they actually say. This is what they used to say, in the long ago before times when Shaheen learned to do politics. There is no kumbaya median voter anymore. The question you get knocking doors is not "why can't you all just work together?" it's "why didn't / will you fight harder?
Shaheen: "When I talk to my constituents in New Hampshire, you know what they say to me? They say, 'Why can't you all just work together to address the problems that are facing this country?'"
