In the late 80’s I was invited to exhibit work for an “Artists Make Toys” exhibition. This was one of my works exhibited. The Atomic PoGo. The truth; I wasn’t an artist making toys but I became one in order to get in this exhibition.

Around that time my wife and I looked like this.

San Pedro cactus.
Planted in our garden, cactus grow fast, and with abundant flowers. 30 years ago my wife Diane started excluding them into her photography. We now do most of our landscaping using cactus of all verities. And for Diane they are a muse.

My wife is a fine art photographer. For many years she has worked with alternative processes. In the last 10 years she has included the Cyanotype process. For her to get more control of the exposures, together we built an ultra violet light box. Here’s the box & one of her first prints using the box

Years ago most of the San Jose, California galleries would have an annual Valentine’s exhibition. They were always fun with lots of creative self expression, full of love and angst. This was one of my “Valentines” probably 25 plus years old. I remember the symbolism.

A Neanderthal Sees A Pterodactyl. I’m reading “Creation Lake” by Rachel Kushner. My drawing came from it. A good book that has something to do with this drawing.

My sculpture is often geopolitical or just political. My art is Self Expressionism. Just for fun I play with my iPad and the Procreate App. I’m 83 years old. I will make art to the end. Lots of my sculptures are in private collections nationwide and internationally, but I live with hundreds more.

Bronze cast sculpture even when small scale can be rough, dirty work offering many ways to cause injury to the artist; burns, strains, cuts and pokes…
When I want a break, I go to an opposite material, balsa wood and Japanese tissue. These sculptures weigh ounces.

Ukraine sketchbook drawings: A friend was going to make an “Artist book” using my drawings but I couldn’t make it work for her. I lost confidence in what I was doing and decided overnight that my drawings were shit. Here are some pages from my sketchbook, it’s me failing to wring it out.

Stacks and stacks of sketchbooks.

My work comes from my sketchbooks or my sketchbooks come from my work. My inability to spell and write is obvious. But I draw, slop paint and cast bronze instead. In 2022 I started a sketchbook for Ukraine reference. It hurt and was painful to draw in it. Tragic.

I thought I could use Bluesky to post interesting stories illustrated with my art. I’m working on it. It’s fun to see how different my drawings are compared to most of the contemporary drawings and art work posted. I’m an old man still working “Analog”. I still cast my own sculpture.

A story about a studio intruder. A page from my 2004 sketchbook which may have nothing to do with a sculpture that was later created. And all of a sudden I’m thinking about a cork thought missing from a Kurt Schwitters collage. The small bronze portrait (I call it a squeeze) is a major story figure
