I will die on the hill that “DM as a professional storyteller” has been an extremely toxic part of dnd culture since big actual plays (I don’t think anyone is at fault, I love CR)

I would love to go back to the time where it wasn’t considered an arduous part time job.

Everyone is equally responsible for the dnd game and creating the game, the DM just has slightly more homework. I wasn’t anxious that my friend wouldn’t like “my” GTA game when I was 8, we were just having fun. It didn’t matter that he or I had the PS2.

The pressure that dnd culture puts on DMs to be a “content creator” for their players is crazy and toxic. Before Dimension 20 and CR it was a foreign concept that players “wouldn’t like MY world” - we never felt pressure to be the NFL in our backyard.

Biggest D&D pet peeve:

“Oh I already have a character! I built a long time ago, they have all this backstory and they’re from this place!”

Immediate flag a player wants to play a very different game. Your character you made 6 months ago has nothing to do with the game we’re making right now.
