Men are like “women won’t even look at a man if they aren’t 6’3 and built entirely of muscle” meanwhile every woman I know would date either of the Kratt Brothers.

I feel like I say this every year but I really need people to hear it. Halloween is the best American holiday. Just kids outside welcomed into their world, marching around together, showing off their costumes to the elderly, parents meeting parents, neighbors catching up with neighbors.

Between banning books, non-white people, genders, immigrants, comedians, journalism…

And then pushing AI which just regurgitates new ideas…

America is headed into a deep cultural recession. This place is bleak and getting increasingly boring.

With corporate America pushing AI to replace workers, our education system putting AI into classrooms and kids using AI to do their homework for them, feels like we're on the precipice of another Dark Age. Which is ironic and unsettling since tech is ostensibly to give us all the world's info

Among the most important skills I have learned in the last two years:
-How to give myself pep talks and encouragement
-How to talk about my skills
-How to compliment myself
-How to deal with mistakes
-How to feel my feelings
-Making plans and then doing them
-Practicing joy
-Setting boundaries
How would you feel about your kids being in a public school that aims to develop an interdisciplinary “AI-ready mindset from a young age”? Because I have lots of feelings and am not in a mental place to draft my response yet. @heymrsbond.com @marcusluther.bsky.social @mrneibauer.bsky.social

I mean, if you want to use AI to experiment with creative writing, knock yourself out. But don’t do it expecting artistic satisfaction, or the joy of overcoming a challenge, or community with writers, or even guaranteed publication, or a feeling or pride.

The Fifth Season by @nkjemisin.bsky.social is also on US ebook sale for $3, and I got 6 copies of that for random giveaway.

Sunshine by Robin McKinley is also on US Kindle sale for $3, and I got 6 of those for random giveaway. Sunshine is probably my favorite vampire book.

Theres not a thing I’ve read about generative AI that’s not the most depressing thing I’ve ever heard
I thought I could keep subscribing to the WaPo to support their journalism, but seeing the opinion headlines keeps making me cringe.

The cure for loneliness is making plans with friends, saying yes to new things, and dealing with stuff like long commutes. For example: on Wednesday, I went to a Blue Jays-Yankees playoff game with a friend despite the long subway ride to the Bronx and a desire to hide in my apartment. It was fun!

The great thing about October is no matter what you wear you are always going to be either a little chilly or a little too warm when outdoors

Sometimes I pause and wonder what would happen if all the time and energy and especially $$$ that has gone into AI in education the past 2 years would have been redirected towards tangible things we already know works to make classrooms and schools better.

Oh well.

Can’t decide what to buy on Prime Day?

Try: absolutely nothing, and then go support indie bookstores instead 📚

Couldn't really sleep last night. Going to take a break from fascism news/social media for the rest of today.

I 100% believe there are roads out of this, that we all need to do whatever we can in the places we can.

And following it blow-by-blow doesn't make me more able or willing to do my part.

In honor of National Poetry Day, the greatest parody rewrite of all time:
I don’t know—and It’s so strange when you live in a community where lap-children-in-cars is the norm! I was seen as the weird one
