Thatcher's government did this with Section 28, banned the "promotion of homosexuality" as a danger to children, while actively protecting Jimmy Savile and who knows how many other pedophiles. It's the same damn playbook.
I cannot begin to properly articulate how upsetting it is to have had people baselessly accuse trans people of being groomers and pedophiles only for it to come out that they were deliberately doing this as part of a project to provide cover to actual groomers and pedophiles in positions of power

I say it over and over again: when you have that much money, you want to live where you want to live and you are simply not going to relocate because of marginal tax rates

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Prohibited activities include advising Chinese graduate students. For reference, a recent Georgetown report estimated 16% of STEM graduate students in the US are Chinese nationals.

This would take out entire fields at the knees, which is perhaps the point.
“The prohibited activities would include joint research, co-authorship on papers, and advising a foreign graduate student or postdoctoral fellow. The language is retroactive, meaning any interactions during the previous 5 years could make a scientist ineligible for future federal funding.”

Researchers speak out against proposal that would bar funding for U.S. scientists working with Chinese partners or training Chinese students

"What if one of YOUR favorite politicians/celebrities/etc is on the list?" Did you all not notice how quickly we dropped Neil Gaiman when we found out about the things he did? Do you know how beloved that guy used to be and how loathed he is now? I think that right there should answer your question.

This is one of the weirder bits of fundamentalist rhetoric. There's an school of thought in several churches including some old Catholic ones that women are supposed to suffer because of Eve. I am not telling you it makes sense. I am telling you he's parroting a line that is a giant warning sign

so glad the child sexual abuse panic was squarely pointed at folks like me by the people actually doing it & the public was like “yeah, seems right—freaks did it. not the men with all the money & fighting to keep child marriage legal, the women that are legal to kill in 30 states if you’re nervous.”
What a great day for finding out that a lot of things people thought were conspiracies are actually backed up by emails that are like hey pedo, let us pedo together in pedoland on the second day of the pedo month

"A recent spate of reporting indicates that Kash Patel’s time as director is going about as well as could be expected — which is to say, it’s an organization-soul-crushing and morale-killing disaster that imperils national security," writes @vermontgmg.bsky.social.

Amazing reporting from @chalkbeat.org: Christian Nationalist law firm Alliance Defending Freedom was involved in setting up Colorado's first "Christian public school" specifically so it could get another case to the Supreme Court over whether public money can fund religious schools
After the Supreme Court tied on religious charters, Alliance Defending Freedom asked a Colorado school district lawyer to initiate a "parallel case," according to emails obtained by Chalkbeat. A self-described Christian public school opened a few months later. www.chalkbeat.org/colorado/202...

Your only possible response, when confronted with someone saying this, is to wait for them to finish, firmly state “What the actual fuck is wrong with you?” and leave the interview immediately.
