I am rambling here in relation to my current situation, but it does really make me think on how expecting academics to move frequently early in their career affects their ability to be in relation to a community and develop politically.
One thing I want in a new job is I want some stability to stay somewhere a while and develop relationships including political ones. It is hard to read about the virtues of affinity groups, when I feel like I'm fumbling around developing the req relations and might have to leave soon anyhow

i think if you are actively paying for the privilege of doing fascism you shouldn't expect even the shammiest of sham trials at whatever the nuremberg equivalent is forty years from now. at least collaborators can say they were in it for the money.
