American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

Chuck Schumer is not built for this moment.
Senator Schumer is no longer effective and should be replaced. If you can’t lead the fight to stop healthcare premiums from skyrocketing for Americans, what will you fight for?

Trump wants to get corporate profiteering out of health care? He probably doesn't really mean it, but let's consider the options.

This is an absolutely insane administrative process. Within the space of a week, states were told by judges/White House
*no SNAP benefits
*half benefits
*full benefits
*pause provision of benefits.
Result is chaos, uncertainty, and uneven access to benefits depending on where people live.
NEW: The Trump admin told states it must immediately "undo" the work to provide full food stamp benefits, or face penalties. The feds sent this in a late-night memo, only adding to the chaos and confusion around SNAP. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/09/b...

yeah, I mean...we just saw Ds of every ideological stripe win sweeping victories in every kind of district.

it seems pretty clear that Golden's strategy of running against the Ds a la Manchin and Sinema has backfired spectacularly in an era of massive backlash to MAGA.
It’s no walk in the park to serve in Congress, and I don’t begrudge Golden for stepping away. But it seems likely that his polling numbers among his own constituents factored into the decision.

Favorability:
16% favorable | 41% unfavorable

Deserves to be Re-elected?:
26% does | 57% doesn’t

There you have it.

Susan Collins reportedly waits till the last minute to see if Trump needs her vote to let him keep killing people indiscriminately without due process; it turns out he DOES need it; so she provides it.

A pretty simple system! (Not so great for Maine. Or fishermen.) #MEpolitics

Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer should resign their leadership positions as soon as possible.

Their failure to so much as endorse Mamdani laid bare layers of incompetence. They are why Democrats have completely failed to combat Trump. The sooner they are replaced, the better.
