Words fail me. My Victoria who some of you know as @vcblanco.bsky.social or @rooftop_gambler on Twitter was taken from me suddenly on the evening of Christmas Eve. She was against all odds even kinder and funnier and more intelligent than she was beautiful. There are none like her.

Fostering kittens adds drama to your life. In the last 24 hours we’ve had 3 escapees from the kitten room (they’re going to be clearing the barricade consistently any day) & their mum bringing them a dead bird.
When that was confiscated, she then brought them a slice of Gruyère cheese, Merry Xmas.

In disaster movies, one character always opens a special bottle of wine.

Wonder if people with these bottles drank them when Covid hit?

“We’ll find out what the final cheese is, in 35 minutes”.

Christmas Eve, final advent day, is here.

Finally finished Birnam Wood by Eleanor Catton. I liked the second half a lot, wonder if they’ll make a movie of it.

I only have a letterboxd to record what films I watch now.

My rating system has changed over the years, so is nonsense overall, and I find it hard to review. I’m not good at describing why I liked a film or not.

So happy to be on holiday, thank you people that protested ages ago so that we get holiday leave.

Ludwig is silly, great and enjoyable. Cool cast too. Hope they make a second season.

We won the Christmas quiz at work but they got our team name, which was an AI generated Die Hard themed quiz team name, wrong.

Someone else in our team told them the wrong name, missing a ho and I kept correcting them but was on mute, lol, so now we won but it’s tainted.

One more day of work.

For the last two years I've been reminding people that perceived wisdom of "National is better at running the economy" has absolutely no basis in fact.

Today I feel vindicated. Yet despite the evidence in front of out eyes, I'm sure many among the great unwashed still believe that nonsense.

We've reached the 'find out' stage of the Government's economic & fiscal strategies. IE. They've 'fxxxed around' & now we 'find out' if its austerity strategy of cutting size of Govt to cut borrowing actually works to grow the overall economy & reduce Govt debt. 1/2 open.substack.com/pub/thekaka/...
When austerity worsens public debt & cuts GDP
Treasury expected to downgrade GDP growth & tax forecasts as Government's spending cuts & building freezes hit the economy; Willis expected to delay surplus & lift borrowing forecast by $6 billion

Submissions have opened on the Treaty Principles Bill. You'll almost certainly see a lot of individuals and groups with big followings telling you to submit using a template that they provide. I am pleading with you to not do this. It's the least effective way to participate.

The day of the jackal was great. All the casting was good, loved Eddie Redmayne in that role.

All the Bianca haters can get a life, it was an interesting character and Lashana Lynch played it well.

Philip Jackson had the killer line in the finale.

And now we come to the part of the day where I gift wrap a rake and a mega Toblerone, to sit alongside the handle. Somehow.

November benefits data is out. Will post more later.
It is important to understand the harm being done here.
We have added 50,000 people to working-age benefits in the last 18 months. It has typically taken us five fking years (and a housing market boom) to get back from that #NZPol.

This ferry debacle is a giant fuck up, they know it's a fuck up, and they've spent a year trying to figure out a way to save face and make it look like it's not a fuck up, but rest assured, whatever they announce, it's still a giant fuck up.

There’s some insufferable people I don’t want to hear being interviewed, by anyone other than Kim Hill.
Will definitely listen to this today.

Kim Hill Wants To Know: 'Are you always late?' - Hill meets Boris Johnson
An abrupt introduction set the tone as RNZ's Kim Hill sat down for a long chat with the former British Prime Minister, to ask if he's trying to "salvage" his career.
