I often think about how men can be perceived as "going out of their way" to be helpful while the same behaviour in women is not perceived as extraordinary because it is expected in the social norm that women act as natural communicators and connectors who listen and help, mothers or not :)

I am flying from NY to a country for which I don't need a visa. As I was boarding, the gate agent asked me to see my visa. I said that I don't need one and she said she meant my US visa.
To be clear, I am leaving, not entering the US, and she still wanted to see my US visa.
