It was 1999 in Poland when Magic: The Gathering started becoming more and more popular, partially because of these bad boys being added to one of the most popular gaming magazines in the country one day.
What I remember as a kid was "hardcore Star Wars fans" hating on the Phantom Menace when Episode 1 came out. It wasn't just about Jar Jar. I liked the new Star Wars and didn't know where the dislike came from. It's a weird phenomenon of established fanbase disliking new things about their fandom.

Coolest cards that are no longer in Standard? I'd go with Phoenix Chick. The perfectly balanced card with so much going on. Especially with all the drama around "too fast, too damaging" early cast red aggro cards, this little guy proved to be the fairest one mana haste creature despite flying. #mtg
