There must be a better way of government than backstabbing each other to reach the top job.” Matron Kraft sipped at the Sacred Wine, that she had had to make compromises with in recent times and was now more like Sacred Vinegar. She sighed. “So, the current Lord Servitor demands that temples have a certain number of congregation members or stand to lose their temples to the city? It’s a real estate scam, isn’t it?”

They woke up just as the sun appeared over the horizon. Anton had slept there, in his Aludims embrace. Nyx lifted his head and gazed out over the plain. The storm has passed, he said. It seems to be a beautiful day in Bel'Edos.
Moving down to his own room, Antin yawned and stretched, pleasantly surprised to see someone had left breakfast on the table outside their door.
"They
sure do wake up early around here." he said, as he took the tray in.
As he ate his breakfast, he heard shouts from outside. Nyx poked his head out the opening, and Antin went to the balcony to peer below. A group of kids were playing in the water. Must be warm, Nyx said.
"Probably like yesterday, the day after a big storm usually is very nice."
He heard a rumble and saw a woman rolling an empty barrel down to the water. The kids cheered as they saw what she was doing. They took the barrel and tested its floating capabilities. One kid got into the barrel, seemingly to stabilize it, as another kid got up and balanced on its edges.
The other kids cheered and ran towards the bridge, that was slightly more down-river from where they were playing. As the barrel floated towards the bridge, the kid standing was doing a great job balancing - he hurled himself up as they reached the bridge, barely gripping the lowest rungs of the railing. Grinning like a martyr when he finally got up on the bridge.
"This century seems like a good era to grow up in," Antin said, admiring the courage and the playfulness he saw outside.
In all ages kids have found ways of entertaining themselves. Some eras they get responsible earlier but most they are allowed to be kids on their free time. Nyx explained.
Another thought hit Antin, taking their conversation 180 degrees. "The Dreth, you started saying something about they being closer to Darkness, what exactly did you mean?"
The Dreth lived in a dimension much closer to pure Chaos. Nyx said, the mental voice he provided somber. In a world ravaged by destruction and despair. …
