Spencer coined it in 1864 after reading Darwin, who liked it and used it himself in later editions of Origin of Species.
But Spencer meant social hierarchy, whereas Darwin meant biological adaptation.

Worth noting that in Darwin’s original framework, “fittest” didn’t mean strongest or most ruthless. It meant best adapted to the environment.
In human terms, that includes cooperation and care, the very traits that let our species survive in the first place. This is why we need to #HumanTogether.

Yes this! But it’s not JUST a moral collapse at the top—it’s the triumph of anti-intellectualism at the bottom.
