I just use Google Voice for my alternate phone numbers. Costs absolutely nothing and works just like a separate phone line including texting. I have four different numbers on my Pixel 8 this way.

Absolutely true. I just had to dig thru and fix another users "iMessage" settings to fix it on their iPad after an upgrade. Facebook also used to horrible with resetting things on each upgrade, but they're a bit better now.
