Internal video team for Double Fine Productions - PsychOdyssey, Double Fine Adventure, Amnesia Fortnight, Devs Play, and miscellaneous other shenanigans captured for posterity.
Found this excellent book at the Seattle Art Museum - gorgeous design matched with a compelling subject - “seeks to capture this precise moment when the biosphere and technosphere merge and mesh into one new hybrid body.”

Something familiar about this incense box… maybe don’t ask anyone at Konami

Seattle is a retro game haven. Privileged to see @16volt.bsky.social play live last night and @pinkgorillagames.com happened to have a copy of Primal for PS2 that I could get signed by Eric Powell!

Took a whirlwind tour through the three @pinkgorillagames.com locations in Seattle while on vacation, spotted PsychOdyssey in the wild! (and got a few treasures)

Took tons of Psychonauts 2 stills and promo images- never expected this to be the one that shows up everywhere. Inspired by every drawing of Jubilee from the 90’s, it took nearly 90 takes to get right. The neon lights spawn in random patterns, just had to keep going to fine the “best” one.

Just putting the finishing touches on this Guinness ad we shot with @spaff.bsky.social ! Good things come to those who wait- expect it later this week!

Some may have already guessed at it, but yes, another Devs Play is on the way. B-roll is gathered (purple markers across the top), then added to a node chain of parameters for quick adjustment. Still getting used to the process, but so far, this setup is working.

We're getting good audio in the new studio space. It's still a lengthy process for syncing the Instamics in Resolve, but we're not sure of any better way to do it yet. The mics are self-contained; they have milliseconds of drift that add up on a long recording.

For the PsychOdyssey sets on sale at @amoebamusic.bsky.social on Haight St in SF, we had to print out a 1 sheet and stick it to the back so people would know what it was. These are things you don't think about with direct online sales.

Got something new cooking in the video oven for tomorrow - stay tuned

Not that anyone should own both, but if you put both 1st and 2nd PsychOdyssey print runs next to each other the waves align. We basically did this for ourselves since designer @tomkiss.net thought it would be fun.

We're already using this room for interviews and videos and have lots of stuff planned for release this year! It'll be a long time before another doc but we do want to stay active on the Double Fine YouTube channel and keep our skills sharp. Stay tuned for more Double Fine TV 2.0!

A 55" tv sits to the side for hosts to play and view content, run by a 2nd dedicated gaming PC. An 8 input audio mixer with wireless lav mics is available for live broadcast, but for most of the content we're recording we'll be using the instamics and putting everything together in post.

A PC with capture for 4xHDMI, 4xSDI, and a single 4k source also runs up to 5 displays. The desk has two monitors for OBS, used for video mixing and monitoring. An 86" LCD tv sits behind the desk and functions as an output for OBS so video loops, images, or capture can be pushed out to it live.

@ashleyesqueda.com keyed us in to Aputure as a lighting solution that would meet our needs. A networked system of a key light, rear spots, and a combination of light bars and mini spots would transform the look of the room in a single button press. This setup is run by iPad from the control center.

Either side of the stage has sound dampening panels with arrangements of foam spreading out into the rest of the room. Metal air vents were removed and replaced with flexible tubing to reduce noise. We now have the best sounding space in the studio next to the audio department.

We would want the biggest TV possible to use as a video backdrop, then two layers of curtains on tracks, one red and one white. The white could be illuminated to change their color. RGB lighting mounted all around- ceiling, floors, and walls. An adjustable standing desk with folding sides.

Flexibility was the first concern when designing the space. We thought of every video we shot at Double Fine and how that could all be accomplished in one room. Devs Play and Sidequests. The Double Fine Action Show, Rocktober, the Massive Chalice update streams. Even podcasts and commentary.

We stopped using the Arri and switched entirely to natural conditions, then after growing tired of that we added in a small kit of a few RGB panels and a ring light. These allowed us some creativity in dressing up the same old places around the office, but again the setup time remained a problem.

Our shooting at Double Fine started with a kit of Arri tungsten lights. A workhorse of the film industry, they produce beautiful warm soft light but were dangerous in rushed setups. Growing extremely hot, moving them before they could cool would cause glass elements to potentially pop and shatter.

Demolition knocked down the walls and pulled up the carpet. We requested all black- black walls, black carpet. Cover up the windows. A decade of shooting in the DF office with exposed windows and bounced light from walls, carpets, and desks had us yearn for a more neutral environment.

With the studio audio department changing spaces to suit their own needs, it was deemed that we could take over the space that previously housed their offices. We suggested connecting the two rooms through an adjoining maintenance hallway, creating one area to house a stage and control center.
