The courtyard is done! Instead of flocking it, I decided to go with a grass insert made of felt. This makes it much more durable for tabletop play. Now all I have to do is finish the various extras that can drop into it to change its look.

Originally meant to be a field, this small terrain board took on a life of its own and now will have a series of inserts. (garden, cottage, park,, mausoleum). The field will now be a separate board.

I think the misconception that the rules don't change is that the game is 40 years old and there aren't that many still playing who picked the game up in the 80s

My group got 2 games in this weekend, good times. We used the Instant Action rules and it made for some really interesting scenarios.

I found his terrain piece from 1982. it was for D&D

It was a mimic outhouse (I was 10 and that was funny as hell then). The door could open, and there was a hand drawn moth behind it.

I am going to spruce it up a bit and use it for Quar out of pure nostalgia.

This will eventually be an autumn field with a large boulder with a crooked tree near the edge. A small stone fence will encircle it.

The field is a coconut fiber mat. This will be for A Clash of Rhyfles.

There seems to be a misconception that Battletech rules have never changed.

As someone who has played since '85, I can assure you they have.

The Mega Mek folks have come up with a browser based mech database called Mek Bay. I myself normally use Meck Factory, but this one is faster if you just want to look up stats and record sheets.

I was putting together some Halloween themed Battletech scenarios, some are well known like the Black Marauder, some less so like the Callandra Witch.

Looking at the mechs that come with the Gothic box, I realized that a headless Gothic Atlas would be perfect for a spooky scenario.

7. CASE II almost guarantees survival against a TAC regardless of weight or engine type.

I was skeptical at first, but the proposed rule changes add more to the game than they take away. I now feel these are positive changes to the system.

5. 40+ ton mechs with standard or light engines can survive an TAC ammo explosion

6. With CASE, even 20 tonners with standard or light engines can survive a TAC ammo explosion. 45+ ton mechs with XL engines can also survive.

2. 6/9 Light Mechs that used to be rear or bust become valuable flanking assets.

3. Only one chart to memorize/reference.

4. The 20 point limit means that ammo laden Mechs will still be punished for a TAC, but are less likely to cease to exist.

My thoughts on the new proposed playtest rules after several games. A 🧵

1. If you have mobility parity (or superiority), you can more reliably keep your weak side away from the enemy. Meanwhile, superior mobility will allow you to flank and continue to punish a chosen side.
