"War on the Run," by John F. Ross. It's about Robert Rogers and the creation and evolution of Rogers' Rangers during the Seven Years War. Great overview of 18th century special forces combat.

This is the nerdiest, niche-ist thread that I've read in a minute. It's beautiful!

You may already know about him, but just in case... Briton Hammon was an enslaved person from Marshfield, MA. He journeyed to the Caribbean, was captured by the Spanish, fought for the British navy... it's a fascinating story that really deserves more attention! docsouth.unc.edu/neh/hammon/m...

Thank you for sharing. A third of the population engaged in the protest... I wonder what it would take to achieve similar rates of participation in the US. bsky.app/profile/nan-...

This is a good time to recall what Koreans achieved in 2017: by bringing overwhelming public pressure to bear upon the processes of democratic governance, they secured the impeachment of a president widely regarded as unfit for office, followed by a peaceful transfer of power. apjjf.org/2017/14/kim

OTD in 1924: Over 10,000 people and 26 trucks of flowers turn out for the burial of Chicago florist and bootlegger Charles Dean O'Banion, shot by 3 men on November 10th, 1924. A member of the Irish North Side Gang, O'Banion was a rival of Italian gang leader Al Capone. Capone attended the funeral.

Can anyone reccomend a starter pack of accounts focusing on the history of the Interwar Period (1919-1938ish) globally? Accounts with a regional or national focus are also useful, as long as I would be getting a global look at events when viewed collectively.

I've found it really therapeutic to re-listen to a few favorite Terry Pratchett audiobooks while I clean my house.

New-ish to bluesky, displaced from the other place. Still figuring out the ropes. Thank you to everyone putting together the starter packs!
