Writer. Imaginary. Published in a few journals and anthologies around the globe. Winner: Bristol Short Story Prize 2023 and others. A figment of your imagination, otherwise.
Yeah! I mean, the topic was so good, but didn't enjoy the arc it took. Could've been so much better.

I'm not arguing with your reading taste. You have all the right to have yours. But I've seen this point being raised so many times by the very people you claim above, that it got under my skin. It's so unfounded. I've read MR lit from all over the globe. Most of it is brilliant! Anyway, cheers!

1. Let's say in OG fantasy, there are elves and dragons. Does that mean any story without those elements can't be fantasy?
2. OG MR wasn't about colonialization even in the Latin American form of it. That's just a halo effect.
3. If colonization was the go-to point, how many continents can write MR?

Every genre definition we use now must have originated at some point in time at some place. But has a geographical limitation been put to them? How is that different from saying only we should make EVs? Any writing form belongs to anyone who wants to adopt it, as long as they're doing it right.

Sorry, I disagree. There are enough contemporary major award-winning MR books from all over the globe. To claim that you need to be born in Latin America to write magical realism makes no sense to me. Yes, urban fantasy & all other miscats are not MR, but not because of the writer's origin.

Every once in a while, someone reminds me of this. But some of the more recent Ukrainian cinema is good too!

Currently reading this! Was a little distracted by the bombardment of too many POVs at the beginning. But it takes flight later on. Enjoying the ride so far. 80% done.
