Immigrants who come here seeking a better life do the most thankless, physically demanding jobs. They grow our food. Build and repair roads and bridges. Take care of our elderly and disabled.

And we are fucking TORTURING them.

This regime is really trying to make me reconsider the death penalty.
They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.

Amnesty International, interviewing migrant detainees, identifies use of the confinement box. There can be no denying it is a torture prison

a *lynching*? huh.
Possibly the only thing more freakish than Nuzzi's prose is the contortions her defenders twist themselves into. "She's not just hot, but she definitely is hot, while also being a vulnerable smol child. Also, criticizing her is sexist."

It’s a great tweet because it illustrates how building clout in the right, as far back as 2015, was so much about being racist that this guy made up a racist tradition to farm likes bsky.app/profile/jess...

Very few provisions on the Constitution have a meaning as readily and definitively discernible from text and history as the Citizenship Clause. All credible evidence leads to the same place. If self-proclaimed originalists can’t get this one right, they discredit the entire project of originalism.

You can only remove universal birthright citizenship from the 14th Amendment by inserting words that are not present in the text, like “allegiance,” then defining them in an idiosyncratic way engineered to produce your preferred result. No one should credit this fundamentally fraudulent enterprise.

During ratification of the 14th Amendment, senators discussed whether the Citizenship Clause would apply to the children of immigrants and resoundingly concluded that it did. The text and history all point in one direction and the counter-arguments are patently fraudulent. I am going to lose my mind
The evidence is the text. All you have to do is read the Constitution.

again, it is just arrogance. “there is one true meaning of the constitution and it can only be derived by a special caste of lawyers with a special interpretative lens and once discovered it is binding.”

the idea that a handful of conservative legal scholars have an understanding that should supersede a settlement affirmed my generations of american is astoundingly arrogant, and the idea that trump — or any president — can unilaterally overturn that settlement is just despotism

Parts of the federal gov't that most people never think about -- research orgs, safety regs, low-income programs, etc. -- are being degraded & destroyed, with no one to notice or mourn them. But every bit of it erodes the foundations of US power & prosperity, carefully laid over decades.

One thing about the Biden admin. is that, two or three levels down, there were tons of smart, focused, pro-social people doing great things that never rose to the level of a headline.

Conversely, an enormous amount of the damage Trumpies are doing never makes the news.

I truly believe that most people are better than this, but being quiet and passively good doesn't help anyone. People who believe in decency need to get as active and exercised as these evil fucks.

Or else the evil takes over. We've seen this whole story play out before, many times.

Some simple moral clarity. Our country is run, and our public life is dominated by, wicked people.

I wish there were a party -- or christ, just a substantial faction of Americans -- who stood up for love, compassion, & decency with the same vigor these fucking ghouls celebrate murder.
