god, it’s brutal out here | two years away from being two years away | MLS sicko from another continent | anthropology student | knows definitely too much about sports | he/him

Nobody knows anything about MLS, except one thing: money=/=success. But what if, in some ways, it did? Starting from @benwright.bsky.social 's findings about how MLS teams allocate their money, I dug myself a rabbit hole to learn more about the way MLS teams build rosters

Sunday: Fox has Trump in the broadcast booth

Monday: Pat McAfee has Trump call into the show and slobbers all over him

Tuesday: Proof Epstein told Maxwell that Trump had “spent hours at my house,” “knew about the girls,” and that Trump was “that dog that hasn’t barked.”

Good look guys!

Tbf, it should be noted that South American leagues play on a fall-to-spring calendar mostly because it would be extremely dangerous and demanding to play during the summer… which is what happens in most MLS cities, including “cold-weather markets”. If anything this reinforces why MLS should shift
Has never been a problem for South American leagues.

GB is 1-3 when allowing 16 or less points. The rest of the league is 62-5.

this is so silly. people know the deal with bond. the writers should just embrace the metatextual aspects of the franchise
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

My wife and I pay for life insurance even though we have never died. I pay for fire insurance even though my house has never burned down. That's not because we want to throw money at insurance companies. It's because THAT'S HOW INSURANCE WORKS.

I’m a huge fan of his offball runs when the ball is behind midfield. He’s such a unique threat that just didn’t work in San Jose for various reasons.

Amahl Pellegrino finding success with San Diego, particularly in the playoffs, warms my heart.

That’s:

1) Pure gaslighting; and

2) An almost impressively shameless attempt to say “don’t blame me; blame the players.”

Phil Neville is a bad coach with a bad record. He was a bad hire. And it’s played out pretty much bang-on at the 50th percentile of expected outcomes. #RCTID

Phil also says that there wasn't a change in system or tactics tonight, and that it came down to "Menality... They (San Diego) beat us because they wanted it more," #RCTID

I wonder if Kyler Murray ever thinks about how he could be in the prime of his arbitration years right now, making $5.4 million to play 81 games a year in Sacramento while batting in front of Jacob Wilson and Nick Kurtz

This year's Sounders team was the most fun they've ever been & imo one of the ~10 most fun teams in MLS history.

I simply can not imagine not being entertained by the way they played (though I agree w/ you that they had a habit of taking the foot off the gas once they thought they had a game won).
I miss when the sounders were fun to watch. Not endless endline cut back ball.

this is the play in which sheldon rankins conjured a scorigami out of absolutely nothing. 30-29 had happened plenty of times and so had 37-29. scorigami only happened because the refs didn't make them stick around for the extra point

i decided to watch the minnesota-sounders game in its entirety. it got me thinking quite a lot, mostly about things that aren't the game itself, but feel intrinsically tied to it:

Whoever mic’d up MLS Next Pro Cup did an incredible job. They made 9k people (still a great achievement imho for a clash of B teams) at Red Bull Arena (sorry, not changing the name) sound like a fully packed house. What an atmosphere

I continue to be completely flabbergasted by Picard’s bowl cut in the year 2025. He looks like that picture of young Tina Fey. Low-key a top 5 haircut in MLS history

Imagining Suarez retires after this season, Miami wouldn’t really need to go on the market for a DP striker with Alba’s retirement opening up a DP slot. Mateo Silvetti seems like he could really be a great option up front. At least let’s hope they won’t park him on the wing, exciting player
