It’s been a tough time. Yesterday we took Mabel to the vet because she was having a hypo episode. We unexpectedly ended up having to say goodbye to her. We are devastated.

This is a photo from back in 2016 when I adopted her.

I just submitted a grant today. In preparing it, I went over the reviews I got for my submission for the same grant scheme last year.

Nearly every reviewer commented on my prior track record with grants. My question is - why is this so relevant to whether or not someone gets a grant?

Hey memory folks! I got a question from a student I couldn't quite answer. I talked about consolidation, and how HM's loss of 3-5 years of recent memories led the field to believe that consolidation might take the same period of time.

A student asked - "why would it take so long?"

my partner and I finished Six Feet Under last night and… god.

Even though it was a rewatch, I haven’t been that moved by something in a long time.

my partner and I are watching Six Feet Under at the moment. it's a rewatch for me and the first for her.

saying it's still good is an understatement. it's incredible. I think it's even better on a rewatch

I have been terribly sick this week for about the third time this year. I seem to get hit much harder than most people, often getting really debilitating coughs and congestion even after the worst is over.

I might sound crazy but at this point I'm considering getting sinus surgery.

my band has a new single called "Shadow Operator." we're proud of it. it might have my best guitar work yet.

I like to think it sounds like johnny marr playing for joy division - gloomy post punk with some jangle. also big hypnotic guitar solo at the end

🧠 New preprint alert!

In this study, using a joint modelling method with the Diffusion Decision Model, we offer a mechanistic reinterpretation of the Late Positive event-related potential Component (LPC) as a neural signature of mnemonic strength during evidence accumulation in recognition memory.

I had a REALLY lovely time talking to @milesklee.bsky.social at Rolling Stone about why The Onion is thriving.

It's because we're one of the only legacy outlets unafraid to accurately reflect the mood of this country.

That mood? Everyone fucking hates this.

Please check out this work by @seymaertekin.bsky.social et al. where we studied key empirical benchmarks of working memory in a large-scale sample of elementary school students. This type of data is AWESOME because you can get a lot of clarity - as long as you don't go down any rabbit holes...
Do kids show adult-like working memory patterns?

🧠 We analyzed nearly 1M observations from 9K+ Dutch students in a real-world adaptive learning platform.

Honey, we fixed Signal Detection Theory (SDT)! In this preprint, Constantin Meyer-Grant, David Kellen, Sam Harding, and I critically evaluate the (unequal-variance) Gaussian SDT model in recognition memory and pursue the Gumbel-min model as a principled alternative: doi.org/10.31234/osf...
