Trump has posted to Truth Social at least 75 times and counting in the past hour.

It’s weirdo garbage produced by random people on X and TikTok across a number of topics, like conspiracy theories about Ilhan Omar and influencers who claim “communists” are attempting a color revolution in the U.S.

Some kids are going to see a whole lot of really outlandish shit as they swim deeper and deeper looking for a platform that hasn't been banned.
Yet another obscure app has skyrocketed in popularity as the eSafety Commissioner says her office is being "very proactive" about teens signing up to murky alternatives to dodge the social media ban.
'We'll be watching': Social media companies warned about complying with ban as teens flock to alternative apps

You are not wrong about this.
Ya know, every single time I have a hankering to play a game where I fly a spaceship, it becomes this elaborate chain of specific cravings that inevitably results in "it's Freelancer, all you're doing is trying to find another Freelancer"

No gamepad support but there are other cravings at play here
What is the best space combat game *for a gamepad*?

Reading Adrienne Massanari's "Gaming Democracy" and feeling some kind of way. Very much a book that needed to be written.

Although Australia doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving, with the year ending it's still a good time to reflect. I'm almost indescribably thankful that I am here, in Aus, to be saying this. It's still a bit surreal for me to have picked up my family and left the instability of the USA.

All of this. And more, because I think this was well underway before AI, and that AI is really only a symptom of the greater problem which Jes does touch here: inability to relate to others. Nothing *means* anything in the sense of communication to another person.
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

*STRONGLY* Agee. Worked hard not to do this in class this year. "Content" elides the work and focuses on the box that it's filling. It's an unironic "say we make widgets" for corpos.
Inspired by someone elsewhere, I hereby vow to try to avoid the terms "content" and "content creator," unless I *must* talk about work across so many fields that a generic term is the only one that will suffice. Let's not reduce art, criticism, journalism, etc. to an undifferentiated smear of Stuff.

It's stuff like this that feeds my theory about how much of modern society works via deception. Like, just constant, pervasive lying is the default.
Musk turned on a feature on X that showed country of origin.

He disabled it a couple hours later when it was revealed how many MAGA accounts aren't in the U.S.

Foreign bot disinformation machines exposed.

Seems like Twitter could have done that feature 15 years ago & we wouldn't be here today.

This is equally hilarious and concerning. If you ask an LLM to do something it would normally refuse (say, give instructions on how to create weapons-grade plutonium) using poetic verse, it is much more likely to bypass safety protocols and give you an answer.
Looks like LLMs are *very* vulnerable to attack via poetic allusion: "curated poetic prompts yielded high attack-success rates (ASR), with some providers exceeding 90% ..."

Say I'm subscribed to WIRED as an example (I am). Is there really still no way to use RSS to read entire articles, rather than load the whole page complete with deluge of ads? My RSS 'complete content' is still only a fraction of the article.

Oh wait, we have a name for programs that install other programs to the detriment of our machines' functionality - especially without permission. Shit what did we call that kind of malignant, malicious software again?
"Microsoft warns that Windows 11's agentic AI could install malware on your PC: 'Only enable this feature if you understand the security implications.'"

bro what--
what are we doing here, exactly, how can you--anyone be okay with this?

It’s the universities encouraging students to use AI that really gets me. All this “we need to accept it’s here and teach them to use it” does not help students learn to think. Writing is for thinking and communicating, not just producing words.
I spent a lot of time this semester explaining why it produces bad work but at the end of the day, they're being asked to do a thing they find difficult, and this makes it easy for them, without any meaningful consequence. And the university encourages them to use it.

Beginning Monday, a Frozen Peppermint Hot Chocolate drink will be available exclusively at Starbucks cafés inside Target stores.

The chains are hoping the drink can drum up excitement from customers this holiday season.

The crew at Aftermath do good work. On this very technical matter, the new site is very clean and crisp. Congrats on anniversary and overhaul!
As you may have seen, we've launched a brand new website today! And while we're excited about some of the big stuff involved--like a sale and new payment methods--here are some other neat features we hope readers and newcomers will appreciate.
