But also: public school nerds, as the original Greek root was spelt with a κ (κινηματογράφος), and the original English words were kinema, kinematographic, etc.

At least that’s more consistent than TV which is abbreviated from a word composed from half Greek and half Latin.

BBC people always abbreviate telecine to TK to avoid confusion with Television Centre studios. If you’re in CAR, taking a feed from TC4 is not the same thing as taking a feed from TK4.

Outside the BBC, telecine was abbreviated to TC.

Every word... more people with RTD's clout and influence need to be standing up and speaking out in this way. "Censorship is in us." TV needs leaders and champions who stand up for the world we want to see and be. "TV is a light in the dark and we must not let that flame go out!"

Huge. Deserved. Joyous. Disturbing.

It’s a tricky situation, especially for the BBC with Charter Renewal, and having spun off BBC Studios (to play the same HETV games as the rest of the sector). Bringing back those BBC4 type shows at lower budgets might actually be more beneficial than just as a financial sticking plaster.

However, many production companies have been under pressure to close the PSB finance gap for so long that they have pivoted toward the bigger budgets of streaming and no longer see purely domestic programming as viable. It’s a cultural (and perhaps societal) timebomb for indigenous storytelling.

I’ve been making these arguments to senior people in comedy for a couple of years now. They get it, but the solution is not to ask just for extensions to the HETV tax credit, but to retrench to cheaper riskier shows that wouldn’t attract huge co-production funding.

BM spot SMs are the best. It’s not just clanking an old ironing board around, is it?

And yet, somehow, Toby Jones still manages to point out the constellation of Orion high in the sky in mid-summer…

And they say people have had enough of experts…

Well that did the trick, apparently. Now Andor looms again, unfortunately…

Ditto.

Relieved I no longer have to watch Andor again.

Reluctantly agreed to go and see “Weapons” at an Odeon screen that was smaller than some cornflakes boxes I’ve bought. Anyway, it left me entirely unmoved until it turned into a madcap CFF kids film at the end. That bit was great.

Shame. Fury. Catharsis. Self-knowledge. Desperation. Cowardice. Bravery. Resolve. All done in the service of comedy while Newman’s busy delivering his own capper.

“I can’t swim!” from Butch Cassidy is a great (almost perfect) punchline, but look at the following held 2S. The sheer quantity of acting brilliance from Redford, both characterful and hilarious, makes you laugh another five times in as many seconds. Genius. We were lucky to have him.

It’s harder for distracted viewers to naturally grasp where they are in a story, do dialogue has to constantly spoon feed them the beats… the “new golden age” of television was a chance for creatives to tell more sophisticated stories, they said. Not sure that’s turned out to be the case. 3/3

With streamers, the lack of structure within episodes, fixed durations, with bloated story arcs with a paucity of storytelling beats make it hard for an audience to follow the rhythm of what they watch. Enough dopamine to encourage bingeing, but the cues that used to be there are missing. 2/
