Hot Take: Bring back the times when we use to network in the industry with people to become friends/build relationships rather than try to take advantage of them to see what they could do for you 🤷🏾‍♂️

PRO TIP: If your company is offering free Company subscriptions to any AI tools(Cursor AI, ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Claude) take advantage and start using these tools in your workflow.

Y’all have no idea what it means to me to be able to talk to @kelseyhightower.com to thank him for his powerful message. His talk at #RenderATL was by far the most impactful to me. To see someone look like me blessing others in the community motivates to do the same!

We've reduced intelligence to what people can do with computers, which is fueling the current hype cycle.

What makes MCP appealing is the adoption of existing technologies, including JSON-RPC, to close a feature gap, mainly the need to fetch external data and call other tools.

The ability to build extensions and integrations using existing technologies is the big win in my opinion.

The more I dig into generative AI from the prospective of a retired person, the less I want to be involved, or make use of the tools.

I want to focus on using my own model of the world to contribute to society for as long as possible.

Learning the basics of MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is fairly simple actually.
It’s a protocol that lets AI agents control software tools.
This article from @addyosmani.bsky.social is a great introduction.

If you have to whiteboard or solve coding problems, use the PREP method.

- Parameters: What inputs are expected?
- Returns: What’s the expected output?
- Examples: Provide test cases
- Pseudocode: Write the steps/plan in English

Clarity is more important than speed. Talk & show your thinking.

To answer behavioral questions, use the CAR method.

- Cause: At my last role, we faced X problem…
- Action: I took these steps to solve it…
- Result: Because of my actions, we achieved X…

Keep it to 3 sentences. Be confident, now is not the time to be humble.

One of the mistakes I’ve made early in my tech career was constantly switching between programming languages and not going in depth with the fundamentals in the programming concepts (HTTPS/APIs, Databases, Authentication/Authorization, Architecture Patterns, Security, Performance, testing etc)

Have you been hearing how "AI will replace software engineers"? Is it true?

We talked with software engineers who not only are not "replaced" but picked up a new skillset working with LLMs. Building amazing things.
