Yep, Alison was telling me about the difficulties. I'm sure it's irritating because there are a lot of studies on the topic, butthey all differ so much in what they've done and what/how they report that comparing them becomes impossible...I'll look out for it tho because it would be really valuable!

Excellent! I gather there may have been a meta-analysis involved as well, that was proving quite tricky to get started with...

Absolute pleasure to be involved in this review article on sustainable parasite control in ruminants. Full of lovely stuff on vaccines, nutrition, genetics, grazing and biological control! www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Set up a couple of baited pitfall traps to see what dung beetles we’ve got in our grazing trial at our research farm. Looking forward to seeing what we’ve got in a week’s time!

Lots of fun in the Moredun tent at the Royal Highland Show yesterday, chatting to folk about various project and showing them revolting things in jars. Nipped out for a bit to see some animals and get the obligatory Valais Blacknose pic

Great fun dung beetle hunting in our grazing trial plots at Moredun with Kelly Jowett and Gen Kiero-Watson from @rothamsted.bsky.social yesterday! Should be the start of a great collab

Lovely geotropid dung beetle on sheep poo on the path up Schiehallion at the weekend- with wee phoretic mite pal in tow!

Gearing up for our grazing trial with a look around the paddocks to see how the lambs are getting on- and also going into the sheds just because they’re cute up close 🙂

Yesterday I turned 40 (FORTY! FOUR-OH!) for crying out loud. Never mind, my lovely colleagues @moredunfoundation.bsky.social were there to simultaneously soften the blow and take the mick out of me…

Not usual for us to be up at the farm in January- but it looked an absolute picture in the snow, set off beautifully by everyone’s favourite sheep dog!

Missing the annual Soay sheep project meeting for the first time since 2007 today. Happily, I get to spend it trying to feed laxatives to a 3-year-old…

Ugh, the BSP conference clashes with our girl’s birthday. There’s always WAAVP though…which clashes with our son’s birthday 😭

Reckon I can swap a in short research talk for the traditional treasure hunt/pass the parcel/beat the crap out of dads with balloons?

Fantastic PhD project with the awesome Amy Sweeny, making use of some very hard-won data

Hello! I'm Micky, a PhD Candidate at the University of Calgary studying the ecology and evolution of parasites in Sable Island horses using DNA metabarcoding. I spent 3 summers on a deserted island as a glorified poop picker and amateur horse photographer.
